Building a culture where employee mental health is prioritized should not be restricted to the for-profit sector. Nonprofits expect (read: NEED) exceptional outputs from their employees. Let’s match that with exceptional support.
NEW CEP RESEARCH out today reveals that most foundation leaders report concern about burnout among staff - and about half report engaging in practices to support well-being. The Research Snapshot (a brief, timely report on a specific issue) examines funders' perspectives and actions on well-being and burnout at grantee organizations, and includes resources for funders. Read it here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUV4NiZ2 This new Research Snapshot follows CEP's second annual State of Nonprofits report, which found that burnout and staffing issues continue to plague nonprofits. #wellbeing #burnout #nonprofits #leaders #funders #philanthropy

Some wins for trust-based philanthropy in the Center for Effective Philanthropy's State of Nonprofits 2024 report, alongside some very real challenges faced by nonprofits. TL;DR version incoming: 📣 Funders have largely stuck with the (much needed, long overdue) trust-based practices many of us first adopted in 2020, including unrestricted funding, reduced reporting and multiyear commitments. 📣 Folks are tired, y’all. The work is draining, secondary trauma is real, and nonprofit leaders are increasingly concerned about burnout among their staff (and for themselves). 📣 Most nonprofits either broke even financially or experienced a surplus last year. 📣 BUT inflation has hit nonprofits hard, and organizations have trouble paying competitive wages to attract and retain talent. It's a good read, and it echoes some of what we saw locally in the State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report from The Nonprofit Institute at USD several months ago.
NEW CEP RESEARCH out today reveals that burnout and staffing issues continue to plague nonprofits, but also that nonprofit leaders are increasingly worried about their own burnout -- and that burnout is impacting their organization’s ability to achieve its mission. The Center for Effective Philanthropy recently released their 2024 State of Nonprofits report. One of their top findings? Burnout is increasingly becoming a top concern for nonprofit leaders. - 95% of nonprofit leaders surveyed shared that they have some level of concern about burnout, both their own and/or of their staff. - 3/4 of them said that burnout among their staff is at least slightly impacting their organization’s ability to achieve its mission. - 1/3 of nonprofit leaders surveyed say that they are “very much” concerned about their own burnout, and half report that they are more concerned about their burnout now than last year. Give me 10 minutes of your time to fill out a survey that will help our industry! Last summer, our team surveyed almost 400 nonprofit leaders and fundraising staff and discovered the main areas where there is a loud cry for change: 💡 The overwhelming majority of fundraisers desire new strategies for success. 💡 A perception divide exists between CEO’s and frontline fundraising staff. 💡 The nonprofit sector is grappling with a serious crisis of misalignment. 💡 Relationship Changes Everything--both within an organization and in relation to its donors. 🤔 However, despite this demand, many donor-supported organizations have yet to see this change materialize. This year, the 2024 Nonprofit Leader Study aims to understand the reasons behind this lack of change. 🚨 Will you help us by giving ten minutes of your time to share your perspective? Your input will have a lasting impact. https://bit.ly/2024NPLS

Nonprofit leaders, often our most pressing challenges lie beneath the surface. Just as the River Valley nonprofit did when they reopened a new support services location, we too must identify and address our community's unmet needs.
