Essay from The Review: Mark Rivett's decision to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh was based on fraud. His education did not open the opportunities that college promised but burdened him with debt. "It wasn’t just the money that was stolen from me — it was time," he writes. "And I am one of the lucky ones."

Quote of the Day: “The department aims to provide students with accurate information to help inform their choices,” officials wrote in response. “We acknowledge that some students might decide that not attending school might be the best option after obtaining the information.” No kidding! And who will this affect the most? First-generation and under-represented students. And which programs will be affected the most? The arts. While I applaud transparency and abhor the cost of graduate education in some fields, the solution is backwards. Seeking advance degrees, especially in the arts, is not like deciding between a Tesla and a Kia Sportage. This is NOT just a market-driven endeavor, nor a clear ROI. The solution is low- or no-cost art education at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Is this easy? Of course not! Is it imperative? Absolutely! Otherwise, as I've said many times, we are silencing and making invisible an entire generation of artists, whose vision and voices we need now more than ever!

Most college and university students in the U.S. have started fall semester classes. This doesn't mean that they have stopped spending on back-to-school supplies. Students will continue to spend throughout the school year on things like electronics & software, furniture, and everything in between. Looking to learn more about the spending habits of students? Lexington Law Firm put together an amazing blog post loaded with student spending stats. Here are some key stats from the post. - More than a quarter of students hold a full-time time job during school - 30-40% of undergraduate students take out loans to help pay for school - The cost of education has increased over 103% since 1987 - College students spend on average $100 a month on coffee (Wow!) Read the whole list below! #student #spending #stats #marketing

As we navigate the ongoing university crisis, we find ourselves at a critical intersection: money and education. The student loan issue has highlighted how indebted 18-year-olds become to obtain degrees, often in non-practical subjects. These students face a lifetime of debt for tuition paid to schools with minimal input on spending decisions. Once accepted, students feel a loss of control over how their substantial financial contributions—equivalent to a home mortgage—are utilized. This sentiment is shared by endowments, who also express frustration with the management of funds. This situation has led to the creation of the largest unregulated financial market in the world. Those who finance this market want to address these issues seriously, rather than focus on sports, frivolity, and kittens earning degrees.

This is why I have worked for and supported Bottom Line for over a decade. From a recent Forbes article about Bottom Line's 8-year randomized, controlled study to assess the program's impact: “What’s especially notable is that Bottom Line appears equally effective across sites and for students of various backgrounds. Bottom Line also primarily serves students of color, so — if scaled broadly — intensive advising could increase both economic mobility and lead to greater racial equity in college degree attainment.” What amazing work Bottom Line is doing. https://lnkd.in/enpNi_-z

Administrative Services (Facilities & Capital Planning, Security & Mailroom Ops, Enterprise Resilience, Supportive Housing, & NEMT)
An eye-opener on the broken system of education which, like her broken healthcare sister, continues its downward spiral into the $1.73 trillion abyss called the student debt crisis. This number is higher than GDPs of most countries. Education, along with healthcare, are key social determinants of health, and lay the foundation for sustainable, healthy communities. For those questioning why European countries like Germany offer free higher Ed for students while the US doesn't, the obvious answer is "Nothing's free. American tax payers bear the burden of free K-12 with a 32% tax wedge while German residents are willing to up their social responsibilities with a ~50% tax rate." With the rampant distrust in our leaders' promises to keep Social Security solvent (thanks, Greenspan!) and a loathing for higher taxes, innovative solutions catering to different choices are the need of the hour. https://lnkd.in/eeqga74t

Another private school. I wonder if there is a list of "closed schools" comparing schools in the different sectors? Will student loans at this school be forgiven? If so, the taxpayer will be paying for BOTH the school's mismanagement and student loans canceled. Will the fiduciaries of the school be held personally accountable?? Where is the Federal or Consumer Financial Protection Bureau oversight? Or the activists...? #badschools Career Education Colleges and Universities U.S. Department of Education https://lnkd.in/g-KZh5S8
