When the nation was struck in 2019 with a series of tragic events that once again brought to light the injustices of inequities for African-Americans and other minority populations, The Dayton Foundation and community partners ramped up efforts to create a fair and equitable community for all our region’s citizens. From this work grew the Nonprofit Capacity-Building Partnership, a collaborative leadership initiative between the Mathile Family Foundation and The Dayton Foundation. The initiative’s goal is to strengthen local African-American led or majority African-American serving nonprofit organizations to better address inequities in Montgomery County. The first cohort of the Nonprofit Capacity Building Partnership is coming to an end. Nonprofits in the cohort have cited support and gaining new knowledge and skills as just a couple of the benefits of participating in the Partnership over the past two years. However, an unexpected outcome is that these organizations are forming new relationships and beginning to work together outside of the cohort meetings. These new relationships are leading to greater support and service in areas in need throughout our community. One example is this connection between Five Rivers Health Centers and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton, which is bringing new homes to Dayton's Edgemont neighborhood. HomeClub looks at hundreds of articles every day. We choose the best ones to share with our readers. This gives you a quick look at what's happening in the home improvement industry. The article below is one we picked. Community revitalization efforts can have a profound impact on local residents, fostering a sense of belonging and improving quality of life. Lowe's Foundation Hometowns program exemplifies this by awarding $10 million in grants to 100 nonprofits across the United States, as reported by Lowe's Companies, Inc.'s newsroom. These grants will fund diverse projects, from building tiny homes for veterans in South Dakota to creating a community garden in Detroit. By supporting initiatives that address specific local needs, Lowe's is not only improving physical spaces but also strengthening community bonds and providing essential services to vulnerable populations. This commitment to community development demonstrates the power of corporate social responsibility in creating lasting positive change. Racial justice leader focused on philanthropy, grantmaking with a racial equity lens, advocacy, public policy, and centering lived expertise.
There is still time to join Funders Together to End Homelessness 2024 Funders Institute Washington Hilton at Dupont Circle | July 8-9, 2024 Session Highlight: Funder Roles in Supporting Housing Justice for Native People As part of Funders Together's aspiration to be pro-Indigenous, we are connecting the dots between Native self-determination and housing justice. Building upon our previous programming and our experiences at the Native Americans in Philanthropy Conference, we are putting this topic at the forefront of our upcoming Funders Institute. This session will focus on funder roles in Indigenous housing justice. We will explore what it means to "indigenize philanthropy," build authentic relationships with Native communities, and how to support Native people experiencing houselessness. Our speakers include experts on developing housing on Tribal land, working with unhoused Native people in urban areas, and Indigenous-led grantmaking. We will consider the role of land back movements, learn about housing challenges in both urban areas and Tribal land, and gain insights into Indigenous movements and Native-led solutions to housing. Advising Buyers and Sellers of Manufactured Home Communities, RV Resorts & Development Sites Unravel Complexities, Mitigate Risk, and Maximize Value
Typical of a lot of municipal, county, and state legislation...let's copy what someone else did. Like Colorado's HB22-1287, CA introduced AB 2539, which requires an MHP owner to notify all park residents and HCD of a min. 120 days before entering into a listing agreement or offering to sell the park. The bill would grant a 6-month right of first refusal to residents, resident groups, nonprofits, and local governments from the time they receive the notice to make an offer. This can gum up the natural order of selling parks and invite lawsuits. The bill passed out of the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development on April 10th. https://lnkd.in/dZDQVSBx #mobilehomeinvesting #mobilehomeparks #manufacturedhousing #mobilehomes

Ask less about what the field produces. Ask more about who the field is. We have launched an ambitious new agenda to build the field of 6000 community based development organizations. In today's Nonprofit Quarterly, I outline how the field got to this point, and why field building is critical NOW. The article implores funders and policymakers - who care about racial equity and the future of underserved places - to understand the field's identity more deeply. These organizations accelerate the equitable creation of opportunity within underserved communities. It's hard to imagine how we achieve equity and opportunity without them. And they will be stronger and more effective when national actors think of them as a field, and support them for the miracles that they are. A creative, yet transformative way of partnering with communities to implement sustainable change.
Have you heard about our unique Matching Fund model and how it works to empower communities? Through the Matching Fund model, also known as Pamoja4 Change, KCDF partners with communities through CBOs and CSOs to actualize their ideas for community development. Communities raise 50% of their project costs (in-cash or in-kind), while KCDF matches the other 50%, hence the name, Matching Fund. This model develops community ownership in projects and helps them to thrive and become self-sustaining.
