Great to see BigLaw firms like Kirkland continue to provide a strong base for Associates and Partners to then go on to other ventures -- and in this case, return closer to 'home' with a strong network to build out other teams. Many have pegged this coming year as the year of restructurings and consolidation amongst law firms. I think there's room for everyone. BigLaw will continue to shine. Smaller firms will continue to compete on other front, particularly with strategic hiring of top talent.

AmLaw firms with the highest % partner promotions relative to the headcount of all fee-earners this year: - Kirkland & Ellis: 6.1% - Baker McKenzie: 2.6% - Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates: 1.5% - DLA Piper: 1.5% - Latham & Watkins: 0.7% A Kirkland Associate will generally make Partner between years 6-8, while most other BigLaw firms typically don't promote Associates until they have 10-14 years of experience. It's looking like we're going to see a few changes to these stats in 2024, particularly from the likes of Paul Weiss.

A lot of movement in the M&A league tables for 2023. Some highlights: - Kirkland & Ellis regained the top spot for deal value. - The remaining firms making the top 5 for deal value were 2) Latham & Watkins, 3) Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, 4) Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, and 5) Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates. - Goodwin again took the top spot for deal volume with a staggering 871 deals. - 2023 was the slowest full-year period for deal-making since 2013. - In terms of deal value, that represented a 17% drop from 2022. - Some cause for optimism with an uptick in Q4. #biglaw
