Security and the protection of human rights and borders 2. Inclusive economic growth building on and leveraging technology, AI, and manufacturing capabilities AND the full contribution of women 3. New Centrist ways of working -- more collaborative democratic processes, more citizen education, innovative public/private partnerships, targeted incentives to build and improve jobs, prioritization of long-term investments in climate to protect our children and grandchildren 4. New Centrist smart public investments in healthcare and education that bypass historical stuck points and mental models (left vs. right) 5. Lesson for Today (**Copied**) KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UK, ENGLAND, GREAT BRITAIN. Many people all over the world, including well-travelled individuals, often confuse England, the United Kingdom, and Great Britain. England is a country just like PNG and its capital is London just like Port Moresby is the capital of PNG. Great Britain is a collection of three countries that came together as one country, with its capital in London. The three countries are: 1. England, 2. Scotland 3. Wales. When you include Northern Ireland to these 3 countries, they form the United Kingdom (a union of four nations). 1. England, 2. Scotland, 3. Wales, and 4. Northern Ireland. That is why it is referred to as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Collectively, the four are considered as a single country. And in such cases, London serves as its capital. These four individual nations each have their own respective capitals. Accordingly, the capital of: Scotland is Edinburgh, Wales is Cardiff; Northern Ireland is Belfast. England is London. Learning from a True Leader The Honourable Murray Sinclair, Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, recently shared some insights. He emphasized that corporate leaders need to understand their role in the history and the damage done to Indigenous cultures, resources, and properties. This understanding is crucial for shaping the direction of Reconciliation from Corporate Canada. A Call for Change in Corporate Culture Sinclair’s message is clear: Corporate Canada’s responsibility extends beyond contracts and employment. It’s about a fundamental shift in our corporate culture - how we think, how we do business, and how we talk about each other and Indigenous resources. This week the second Equity at Work: Hospitality Cohort Launched supporting hospitality organizations specifically hotels who will undergo equity audits and develop equity work plans… examine culture, hiring and career growth, power dynamics, diversity and inclusivity and more. In this two year journey MiNO foundation will support Beloved and engage with cohort members to offer additional resources and address acute issues and wins. Amanda Seales posted this video this week and This quote below from Barbara F. Walters at the 9min35sec mark really was inspiring. Beloved Community is a partner of @minofoundation in this work to create better thriving workplaces in the hospitality industry. Beloved Community has the tenet that people change systems and the quote below echoes an example of this. Walters is referring and gives an example of what occurred in South Africa with choosing profit over Apartheid. Walters says, “The business community can also help address identity politics by investing in those communities that have been left behind by globalization and by free-trade agreements like NAFTA. In the United States, it was the working class that disproportionately suffered. Those are the communities that are the most angry and the most resentful today…Businesses can invest in better health care, better education and a higher minimum wage so that they create a group of people who are hopeful about the future and less vulnerable to the calls by extremists to burn the system down.” #equityinhospitality #peoplechangesystems #minofoundation #barbarafwalters #tedtalk #belovedcommunity

This Tuesday, the government published its draft for the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), with changes impacting the infrastructure sector. Infrastructure Matters has looked over the details and identified the most significant implications. • The focus on renewable energy has increased significantly - Local Authorities will now be mandated to identify sites for renewable development, a much stronger demand than the requirement to “consider identifying” sites as it was before. Local Authorities also cannot require applicants to demonstrate the need for renewable development and must “give significant weight to the proposal’s contribution to renewable energy generation and a net zero future.” • The threshold for solar farms to be assessed as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) has been increased from 50MW to 150MW, which will reduce costs and timescale for projects of that size. This will likely lead to increased pressures on local councils’ planning processes as they handle more applications, as well as increased interest from developers in those projects. • Labour has now defined the Grey Belt and how they intend to use it. The Grey Belt is defined as Green Belt land that is either previously developed, or does little to contribute to the goals of the green belt. Labour are prioritising previously developed sites first, and only developing news sites in the green belt when that isn’t possible. This announcement will focus attention on disused sites in the green belt. • With grey belt development requiring 50% affordable housing, infrastructure provisions in these areas will be a key medium-term focus for the government and developers. For working families, high quality schools and transport links are vital for improving outcomes, so providing these quickly will be key. The draft NPPF can be found on the Government website, and is currently subject to an open consultation.
