BTS ENNEAGRAM TYPES: PART 11 | JIN (KIM SEOKJIN OR KIM SEOK-JIN) TYPE 9 Part 11 of this BTS series explores the Enneagram type of Jin, whose main roles in BTS are as a vocalist and a visual. The role of visual refers to someone who is, by South Korean standards, considered to be highly attractive and, thus, adds to the visual experience of the group when they are performing live or in videos. As the oldest BTS member, he was already an accomplished actor and was enrolled in the highly-regarded Konkuk University in the Department of Film and Visual Arts when he joined the group. KIM SEOKJIN (JIN) ENNEAGRAM NINE| THE “PEACEFUL” PERSON Although this typing is still speculative, type Nine seems like a near match from everything I could learn about Seokjin. Online, those who also commented on his Enneagram type also noted type Nine as the most likely fit. Nines seek peace, harmony, and positive mutual regard and dislike conflict, tension, demands, and ill will. So strong is their aversion to tension and conflict, they sense it immediately, then try to rectify the situation in a variety of ways. These methods include listening to others, affirming them, and making the person feel heard; through diplomacy by trying to promote mutual understanding and tolerance of different perspectives; and through relaxing conversations and enjoyable joke sharing or storytelling. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SEOKJIN While RM (Kim Namjoon) is often referred to as functioning as the “father” of BTS, Kim Seokjin is called the “mom” of the group because he provides nurturance, guidance, and support for all of them, and especially the younger members, V, Jimin and Jung Kook. He’s been described as “keeping the group under control but not through hierarchy, which he could do because he is the oldest member." Instead, he does this is a more typical type Nine way: “He is like a mother hen who is always taking care that order is preserved. Even, I've also seen videos where the members look at him as if asking permission to do some things, and he discreetly gives them his approval; he's very nice to watch.” Even more, the way Seokjin does this is also classic Nine: a focus on the group or team, then on the individuals within it. It’s said that he “Keeps the group together like glue.” But what is the glue he uses? Seokjin, as is common in Nines, does a number of things that generate goodwill and group harmony plus create a light-hearted, accepting, and inclusive atmosphere. The most obvious is his warm, approachable, and optimistic style. He has developed loving relationships with each individual BTS member and the group as a whole. “Morning charms” When it comes to human connections, the language we weave speaks volumes about our ability to understand and empathise others.The words you use are a linguistic compass that reveals the depths of your empathy. “How are you feeling?This commonly asked question demonstrates a willingness to engage with others on an emotional level. It shows that you’re not just interested in surface-level interactions, but genuinely want to understand what someone else is experiencing.Empathetic people often use this language to check in with other people. Think of it as an invitation to an open conversation where one can express their feelings freely. “I understand where you’re coming from” This is another hallmark of empathetic individuals. For instance,I remember a time when a friend was venting to me about a situation at work. She felt undermined by a colleague and was really upset about it. Instead of offering advice or trying to fix the situation, I simply said, “I understand where you’re coming from.”This validated her feelings and let her know that I was there for her, without judgment. She later told me how much she appreciated that I didn’t try to minimize her feelings or tell her how she should feel.Saying “I understand where you’re coming from” shows that you are not only listening but also making an effort to see things from their perspective. It creates a bridge of understanding, fostering a sense of camaraderie and support. “That must be really tough”This empathetic phrase is a simple and effective way to acknowledge someone‘s struggles. When someone shares their difficulties with us, it can be tempting to jump in and offer advice or solutions immediately.However, what they often need most is just a listening ear and some validation.Saying “That must be really tough” provides that validation. It’s a direct acknowledgment of the person’s struggle, showing them that you recognize their pain. Interestingly, brain imaging studies have shown that simply acknowledging another person’s emotions can reduce their distress. It’s a psychological phenomenon known as “empathetic attunement,” and it’s a powerful testament to the importance of empathy in our interactions with others. “You’re not alone” These words are more than a verbal embrace; they are a lifeline tossed into the stormy sea of isolation. They resonate with a profound truth, acknowledging the shared struggles that weave through the human experience. When spoken sincerely, these words cradle vulnerability, offering solace to hearts heavy with the weight of life’s burdensWhen people are going through tough times, they often feel isolated.They might think that no one else could possibly understand their experiences or emotions. “You’re not alone” can help bridge that gap. Just took my first Enneagram Personality Test and the results were surprisingly accurate! I tend to let my emotions drive my reactions, but I value authentic connections above all else. I should focus on utilizing what I've learned to be a "4w3" oriented personality, and combine that with a Theory Y style of management in the future to ensure the highest possible level of success.
