The surge in solar installations across China, Europe, and the US in 2023 reflects a momentous shift towards renewable energy. China, with an impressive 180-230 gigawatts added, led the way, while Europe experienced a 40% growth in solar capacity. The decreasing cost of solar panels, down 40-53% in Europe, further accelerates adoption. Notably, solar energy is set to surpass hydropower in total capacity globally. In the US, California remains a solar energy leader. Despite challenges, the Solar & Storage Live Thailand 2024 event underscores the global momentum, providing a platform for innovation and collaboration in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions. #SolarEnergy #RenewableFuture 🌞🌍✨ #SolarandStorageLiveTH https://lnkd.in/gbn7cRmw

The amount of wind and solar power under construction in China is now nearly twice as much as the rest of the world combined, a report has found. Research published on Thursday by Global Energy Monitor (GEM), an NGO, found that China has 180 gigawatts (GW) of utility-scale solar power under construction and 15GW of wind power. That brings the total of wind and solar power under construction to 339GW, well ahead of the 40GW under construction in the US. #renewableenergy #china #windpower #solarpower #climatechange https://lnkd.in/g3sQ6rn5

Chinese wind and solar power overtakes coal as the biggest contributor to its energy mix #bne #bneEditorsPicks #bneGreen #ClimateCrisis #ESG #China #renewables China continues to consolidate its position as global green energy champion after wind and solar power overtook coal as the biggest contributor to its energy mix, as of June this year, according to data from the country’s National Energy Administration (NEA). China has been investing heavily into renewable energy and two thirds of all solar panels in operation today are working in China. Together wind and solar are close to making up 40% of China’s generating capacity. Nevertheless, China remains dependent on coal-fired power stations to power its fast economic growth.

China is significantly advancing its renewable energy sector, constructing wind and solar projects at a pace nearly double that of the rest of the world combined. According to a report by Global Energy Monitor, China has 180GW of utility-scale solar and 15GW of wind power currently under construction, totaling 339GW. This rapid development is putting China on track to reach an installed capacity of 1,200GW by the end of 2024, which is six years ahead of its governmental target. This expansion is part of China's broader shift towards a high-tech, innovative economy, as emphasized by President Xi Jinping. Despite this progress, analysts warn that even greater renewable capacity is necessary to meet China's goals of reducing carbon intensity and increasing non-fossil energy to 25% by 2030. Challenges remain, including the country's ongoing reliance on coal and the need for improved energy storage and grid flexibility to manage the intermittent nature of renewable sources.

Wind and solar to make up 40% of China’s power capacity by year-end #bne #bneEditorsPicks #bneGreen #China #renewables #ClimateCrisis #ESG Wind and solar power accounted for 38.4% of China's overall installed capacity in the first half of the year, surpassing coal-fired capacity, which fell to 38.1%, according to a report by the China Electricity Council (CEC). This marks the first time that renewable energy sources have overtaken coal in terms of installed capacity in the country. As reported by bne IntelliNews, China has become the global green energy champion and is producing more green power than any other country in the world. It is also on course to reach peak emissions in the next few years, well ahead of any other country, despite being the biggest emitter of CO₂ in the world.
