Today, across the UK voters will head to the polls as the 2024 General Election begins. However in the last General Election, only 13% of blind and partially sighted people felt they could vote independently and in secret. Our latest work with RNIB calls for everyone to have the right to vote in secret. It was created in response to the insight that most blind and partially sighted people have to be assisted by a companion or polling staff member to read or mark their vote on the ballot paper, which can leave voters feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. 🗳️ More in Campaign UK here: https://lnkd.in/ejhmNZEg

The right to vote in secret was established over 150 years ago, yet this right is still not afforded to many blind and partially sighted people. In the 2019 General Election, only 13% of blind and partially sighted people felt they could vote independently and in secret. Our latest work with RNIB has been created in response to the insight that most blind and partially sighted people have to be assisted by a companion or polling staff member to read or mark their vote on the ballot paper, which can leave voters feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. This Friday is Global MND Awareness Day. It's also the day after the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Our latest work with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association highlights that every day feels like the longest day of the year if you're an MND carer. Over half of carers of people with MND provide over 75 hours of care per week, and over 50% feel that caring has caused them financial difficulty. Last week we invited Earth Tenders - a black-led community garden and archiving project based in South London - to our offices. They shared their history, experience & meaningful work. Earth Tenders want to "create a space that no matter who you are and what your experience is you can get stuck in. It's a space to come together and connect with the land and each other."
