As we celebrate Independence Day, I find myself drawn to one of the most poignant portrayals of American history: "The Patriot." This film not only entertains but also underscores crucial themes that resonate deeply today. Set during the American Revolutionary War, "The Patriot" vividly depicts the struggle for freedom and the pivotal role of armed citizens in securing independence. Mel Gibson's character, Benjamin Martin, exemplifies the bravery and determination of early American fighters who defended their liberties against tyranny. The movie powerfully illustrates how a well-armed populace can serve as a fortification against oppression and safeguard individual freedoms. It reminds us of the fundamental right enshrined in the Second Amendment: the right to keep and bear arms, crucial not just for personal defense but also as a check against potential abuses of power. In today's world, discussions around gun rights and the Second Amendment remain contentious and complex. Yet, "The Patriot" serves as a reminder of the historical context that shaped these constitutional freedoms. It prompts us to reflect on the responsibilities that accompany such rights and the enduring principles of self-defense and civic duty. This Independence Day, let's honor the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom and the enduring values that continue to define our nation. On this July 4th, as we celebrate the birth of our nation, I find myself reflecting deeply on the state of our democracy and the freedoms we hold dear. As a Black and Latina American, today is a reminder of the ongoing struggle for true equality and justice. Our country was founded on principles of liberty and justice for all, yet we continue to witness the erosion of civil liberties, unwarranted freedom issued to domestic terrorists, and a nation rotting from the loins of our leadership by incessant untruths. The political climate has become increasingly hostile to marginalized communities, and those of color, and it’s imperative that we remain hyper-vigilant and active in protecting our rights. I do not see myself as a political activist. I do, however, know that my mind, voice, and freedom to use both are gifts not to squander. This Independence Day, let's not only celebrate the progress we've made but also recommit to the fight for a SAFE and STABLE society. 🇺🇸VOTE Let's honor the legacy of those who fought for our freedoms by continuing to advocate for policies that uphold human dignity, democracy, and civil rights.🇺🇸VOTE In the spirit of unity and resilience, let's use this day to reflect on our collective power and responsibility to shape a future where freedom truly means freedom for all. 🇺🇸VOTE Happy 4th & remember to VOTE. #IndependenceDay #FreedomForAll #StayVigilant

Replacing Confederate monuments with statues of civil rights activists allows communities to correct the historical narrative by honoring those who fought for equality and justice rather than those who defended slavery and white supremacy. Confederate monuments were often erected during the Jim Crow era as symbols of resistance to racial equality, and their presence continues to perpetuate the legacy of racism and oppression. By replacing them with monuments to civil rights activists, society can celebrate the progress made towards justice and inspire future generations to continue that work. John Lewis symbolizes the ongoing struggle for civil rights and human dignity. Honoring him acknowledges the contributions of Black Americans and other marginalized groups in building the nation. Replacing Confederate monuments with those of civil rights leaders promotes healing and reconciliation. It sends a powerful message that the community is committed to moving forward, united by shared values of equality and justice rather than division and hate. This transformation of public spaces can help to create environments where all citizens feel respected and valued.

Public Health, Community Organizing, Racial Justice has to be promoted under every circumstance. We must understand that what is right and what is wrong will always be facts. Hitler was pure evil; let us also recognize those others who fall into that same category. Be careful of "not" recognizing the other evil men who lived. If you are not focused, you may be on the wrong side of right because you are not paying attention. Restorative justice and public health are about doing right and speaking about racial equity and equality under all circumstances. There are some men today who are just as evil as Hitler and Leopold, "PAY ATTENTION" and vote in November.
