I came across an older post by Michael Barnard outlining the mass balance of CO2 and related emissions per MWh from coal-fired generation vs the average mass of solid waste from wind turbine blades. He calculated that "A [typical] coal plant producing the same amount of electricity as a wind farm will produce 3,000 times as much CO2 by weight, 6 times as much nitrous oxides, 15 times as much sulphur oxides, and a third the mass of the wind turbine blades in fine particulate matter." Gas plants are cleaner, but still emit about 1,500 times the mass of pollutants as the wind turbine blades -- and [he argues] the solid waste is effectively inert.
So "Next time you see an article blaring about the horrors of wind turbine blades in landfills, [feel free to] provide some perspective."
(Any updated calculations or info on the impacts of blades in landfills will be welcomed!)

Big money has ridden on their rationalized construction. It will be hard to get the recipients of the excessive income from subsidies to relinquish their benefits for the greater good.
