Visually impaired runner Libby Clegg and Paralympic guide, Chris Clarke, ran wrist to wrist, perfectly synchronized, and won gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Paralympic Games in 2016. Clarke didn’t qualify for England’s national team and couldn’t compete in the 2016 Olympics, but his journey wasn’t over. At that time, only 22 women competed in five sports: tennis, sailing, croquet, equestrian, and golf, making up just 2% of the total athletes. Fast forward to today, and the number of women in the Games has steadily grown—from 10% in the mid-20th century to 50% for this 2024 edition.
