What is newsworthy? To start, it’s news because it’s “new.” I try to explain this to clients as much as possible so that they understand how media works. Just because YOU think your story is the most unique and most special, doesn’t mean it is and especially if it doesn’t meet the criteria. PBS Newshour created this sheet to help others get into the mind frame of media pitching based upon the criteria. Last week, I talked about how to make the most of your broadcast, and I talked about personalizing messages by mentioning the person's name continuously. Today, let's look at something else - Don't send too many messages. Sounds contradictory right? Make the most of your broadcast, at the same time, don't send too many messages. Well, there's a place of balance. Some people send close to three broadcasts per day, at the end of the day it may not be effective, as your audience may get annoyed or see it as disturbance and straight into archive. If you send too many messages, your audience may get annoyed, if you don't send enough messages your audience may feel disconnected. Are you confused? How do I know what my audience wants? Send a DM to some people in your broadcast asking for their opinion and work on it. Your Favorite Media Girl.

3 questions I wish you'd ask before pitching media: ❓ Who cares? Beyond you, your company, your stakeholders. Why does this particular media outlet, reporter, and audience care? ❓ Who cares *today? Is this timely or are you pitching a Christmas story in March? ❓ How is this different from what's already out there?
