Cabinet CV analysis and social entrepreneurship. If you are a social entrepreneur, or working in the sector, and wondering what the change in government might mean for you , it might be helpful to read this CV analysis from Pro Bono Economics, which shows this cabinet as the most experienced in charity work since Gordon Brown. The insights around the influence of Brown and others into the third sector (and the subsequent removal of funding when the financial crisis hit in 2007) was interesting to reflect on. Kathleen Kelly Janus spent 5 years traveling the country, interviewing the founders, leadership teams, and funders from dozens of high impact nonprofits. She met with nearly 100 social entrepreneurs and philanthropists, seeking to discover the main ingredients for social startup success. She then wrote this terrific book about how to scale nonprofits. She began each of the interviews with a simple question: 'What is the key to nonprofit success?' Her summary of responses: "Each organization that scaled most successfully employed many, or all, of the following practices: 1. Testing Ideas through research and development to get proof of concept before seeking major funding or media coverage. 2. Measuring Impact right from the start, often with inventive metrics tailored to their specific programs. 3. Funding Experimentation through a combination of selling products and services that were in strong alignment with their mission and employing bold strategies to raise philanthropic capital. 4. Leading Collaboratively in a fashion that allowed them to optimize the talents of their staff, including building a strong board of directors. 5. Telling Compelling Stories in ways that utilized the most recent innovations and tapped into others to advocate on their behalf." #nonprofits #startups #socialentrepreneurs

🌟 Feature Friday 🌟 @DustinPaisley is an entrepreneur wanting to make people feel good about themselves, inside and out. With only $100 and a Google search of “how to make a T-shirt company,” he set out to do just that. Together with Co-founder @ConnorbCurran, they created @LocalLaundry, turning that $100 into $1 million in annual revenues. Now, they are on a mission to raise $1,000,000 by 2030 to support local charities and community startups. For Paisley, success is more than money; rather, it’s about creating a purposeful product that supports the community. That is why they based the company on the Five Pillars of Community: local representation, sharing community stories, collaborating for more positive community impact, and giving back through local charities. Paisley has seen his share of awards, including @AvenueMagazine's 2022 Top 40 Under 40. But he believes that with every win, milestone, and achievement, comes a longer list of failures that happened in order to get to the win. By sharing these setbacks and obstacles, he hopes to help others achieve their goals. A sense of community is one of the reasons Paisley joined @Grow_EO_YYC. "I joined GROW as a way to learn and develop as an entrepreneur alongside a group of peers," says Paisley. He adds,"the connections made have been invaluable and the learnings have made a meaningful impact on my business.
