Keeping track of their child's disabled parking placard was one more item to juggle for families with shared custody or caretaking roles between households. But now, life will be a little bit easier thanks to the passage of House Bill 4109. Beginning June 6, whether its families caring for a child who requires this critical transportation accommodation and shares their time between multiple homes, or an older parent being cared for by adult children - Oregon families in multiple households can apply to receive more than one Family Disabled Parking Placard through the #OregonDMV. To prevent unauthorized use of the placards, the applicant must certify authorized drivers. The permit still belongs to the individual with a disability and not the vehicle, applicant or whomever is driving. To qualify for a Family permit: Two or more members of a family must be disabled, OR Two or more households must be caring for the same individual with a disability. A licensed physician must certify eligibility of the family member who has a disability requiring the placard. 🌟 Urgent Call for Change: Advocating for a More Inclusive Bowden! 🌟 Dear LinkedIn Community, Today, I feel compelled to share my personal experience living in the breathtaking suburb of Bowden in Adelaide. As someone with disability, I have encountered numerous challenges hindering our community from embracing inclusivity. It's time we raise our voices and demand the change we desperately need! One of the most pressing issues in Bowden is the lack of suitable disabled parking. Every day, we struggle to find accessible parking spots, making it incredibly difficult to go about our daily lives quickly. It's disheartening to witness our essential workers, such as support workers and emergency medical professionals, being penalised with parking infringements while simply doing their jobs - providing care and saving lives. This needs to stop, and it needs to stop now! Moreover, navigating the roads and footpaths in Bowden has become a treacherous endeavour for people with disabilities. The urgent need for maintenance is evident as we encounter cracked pavements, uneven surfaces, and vegetation obstructing our pathways. This not only poses a danger to our well-being but also limits our independence and freedom to explore our beautiful surroundings. To create a genuinely inclusive community, we must prioritise the implementation of safer crossings on our streets and main roads. These crossings would not only benefit individuals with disability but also enhance the safety of all pedestrians, including children and older people. Let's work together to ensure no one feels excluded or endangered while moving around our beloved suburb. I implore the City of Charles Sturt, local government agencies, ministers, and MPs to listen to our pleas and take immediate action. We need urgent solutions to address the issues we face every day. Our voices must be heard, and the wrongs done to our community must be righted. Let's rally together to bring about the change we deserve.
