Not only do nurses dedicate themselves to saving lives, but they also consistently engage in acts of kindness, such as: • Letting people pass ahead of them in line or in traffic (78% nurses vs. 62% of the general population). • Holding the door or elevator open for someone (94% vs. 82%). • Giving a homeless person money or food (44% vs. 16%). • Sending a message to someone to see how they’re doing or to brighten their day (78% vs. 63%). • Spending time with someone who is often neglected (67% vs. 37%). https://hubs.ly/Q02pS43k0

While researching supports for my elderly mother, I discovered that, in New Hampshire, people with Choices for Independence Medicaid have an option called the Adult Kinship program.  It is similar to a foster care program in that a stipend is provided to help offset the costs of providing a home for someone.  As the homeowner, you would receive a monthly stipend of $1500-$2300. You become responsible to provide for all non-medical care (feel free to hire outside help), and your loved one chooses to live in your home, rather than in an assisted living center or a nursing home.  Your household income is not a factor, and the stipend does not count toward your taxable income.  If your loved one needs help ambulating, bathing, dressing, or being safe (i.e., fall hazard, leaves stove top burners on, wanders from home, etc.), then the Kinship program may be a solution for both of you. Two companies that administer this program in NH are Impress Care and The Moore Center Options for Seniors.
