United Nations Day is a reminder that we are all in this together, and that we all have more in common than not. When we can peacefully negotiate and cooperate, honoring the needs of our neighbors with generosity and understanding, we all are made better for it. May we always remember the lessons learned by those who went before us, and work together to maintain peace and uphold human dignity. #UnitedNationsDay #GlobalGoals #UNday #internationalrelations #federalsolutions #governmentleaders #governmentmanagement

Check this out from Terry Tempest Williams on #democracy-- "The human heart is the first home of democracy. It is where we embrace our questions. Can we be equitable? Can we be generous? Can we listen with our whole beings, not just our minds, and offer our attention rather than our opinions? And do we have enough resolve in our hearts to act courageously, relentlessly, without giving up—ever—trusting our fellow citizens to join with us in our determined pursuit of a living democracy?" #politics #unitedstates As the Middle East roils toward another war, which if allowed to escalate can embroil the United States in a war of the worlds, the Judeo-Christian versus the Islamic, self-fulfilling the Harvard prophecy of Samuel Huntington’s Clash of Civilizations dating back to the war with the Ottoman Empire to stave off another Harvard theory of Graham Allison of the Thucydides Trap of the rising China displacing the declining America, to both settle the matter of Jerusalem since Constantine the Great, the Crusaders since Richard I, and later the Freemasons and of Climate Change by war while the rest of the world is counting on the ironic fall of America by its own propensity for the continuing asymmetric war since 9/11 of a great power against the lesser coalition of weak powers stitched together like the aspirational barbarians at the gates of an internally conflicted and decadent Rome, provoked into war by a combination of pride, insecurity, and ideology. The expected general election contest of 2024 between a visibly aging Democrat president and another not so visibly aging former Republican president need not sleep walk the United States into a war for the incumbent to win it by uniting the country dragged into another long war to prove conclusively by plebiscite that he had indeed won the 2020 election, like George W. Bush in 2004 in Iraq after the Florida vote counting controversy of hanging and dimple chads in Miami-Dade county in 2000, which look good when a woman smiles but not on a ballot, which the Supreme Court gave to Bush and not Gore. The next generation of candidates on the Democrat side, Andy Beshear, Pete Buttigieg, Gretchen Whitmer, and Kamala Harris should declare independence from the White House and throw their hats in the primary ring. Nikki Haley on the Republican side can win both the nomination of her party and the White House, making history as the first woman elected to the office, if she breaks away from the Biden wars in Ukraine and the Middle East to bring her deployed husband home for Christmas, and secures the endorsement of Donald Trump before the primaries in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Working with people to connect to their potential and create the conditions for deeper community and better systems for people and our planet.
This paper by Lisa Schirch is excellent and really an essential read for anyone looking for a way forward on Israel Palestine beyond the binary headlines of 'there's only a military solution' and 'ceasefire now'. I'm really struggling with the failure of politicians in the UK (and across Europe and the West) to call for a ceasefire and think this paper offers a set of proposed policies that could bring about an end to the horrific violence now starting with a ceasefire, by also offering a path towards a just political solution going forward, recognising the needs, trauma and humanity on all sides. It debunks the myth of the military solution for Hamas, highlighting RAND research that shows most terror groups end either through political process or law enforcement. It underlines that ultimately Hamas must be tackled by dismantling the idea that violence is the only path to Palestinian freedom - meaning there must be deep commitment and creativity in working towards ending the occupation, addressing trauma and investing in democracy. Take a look.
I originally wrote this set of peace proposals in 2011, when I was invited to the Obama White House to share it during the Israel-Gaza war. This week I updated the plan based on conversations and comments by Palestinian, Israeli, Jewish American, and other US-based peace process experts. We tried to think outside the box. I don't know who is working on creative, conflict resolution-based policies in Washington DC these days... but if anyone can help get this into their hands, I would be grateful. We need a new set of ideas. The 5 points focus on these principles: Protect Civilians, Address Trauma, Invest in Democracy, and Dismantle Hamas and the Israeli Occupation. We need to support the bridgebuilders who might stitch together a future of safety for all.

Rarely nowadays does any U.S. politician consider the moral implications of war, which is why it's worth traveling back to 1967 and listening to RFK Sr. ask the tough questions. Does America have the right to kill tens of thousands of innocents and to turn millions into war refugees simply because such action may make America safer? Is there not a moral imperative to question our motives and to examine our consciences? Shouldn't war trouble us far more than it does? https://lnkd.in/eA7UAVb9

In their 2021 article, PRA’s Frederick Clarkson and Cloee Cooper analyze how the rise of militant anti-abortion groups, such as the “abortion abolitionists,” converges with the New Apostolic Reformation and the Patriot movement to create and facilitate far-right, anti-democratic movements in the Northwest.
