The percentage of Latinos in active duty rose again to 16% in 2017, according to a report done by the Congressional Service Review, and 17.2% in 2020, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. The veteran population is expected to become more racially and ethnically diverse in coming years. “Between 2021 and 2046, the share of veterans who are non-Hispanic White is expected to drop from 74% to 62%,” according to Pew Research. “The share of veterans who are Hispanic is expected to double from 8% to 16%.” Latinos have earned more than 40 Medals of Honor, according to the Department of Defense. Thanks to those who served and sacrificed answering the call to duty and defending United States of America with valor and honor. #MemorialDay

Murphy’s Law in action! Here’s how our Independence Day campaign turned into a comedy of errors: 1. Spent a week on an idea—only to find out it’s a logistical disaster. 2. Had 24 hours to cook up a brand-new concept. 3. Our actor bailed, so we shot the video on approval day—no prep, just vibes. 4. Mics went MIA (still lost!), so we recorded audio on a phone. 5. Visuals? What visuals? We had to cut parts of the video. 6. Main designer fell sick mid-project—because why not? 7. Planned for August 13th, launched late on August 14th—better late than never! 8. Had to repost after forgetting to turn off auto-captions. Oops! 9. Meta refused to boost the video because of “sensitive content.” Classic. 10. And to top it all off, I had to rush to my hometown for a personal emergency right in the middle of everything. After all that, the campaign is live! Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. as issued by President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. In 2021, it became our newest national holiday. The US National Archives offers perspective on why the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in January 1863, but it was not until two years later in June 1865 that the last Confederate community of enslaved Americans received word that they had been freed from bondage: “President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war. The proclamation declared ‘that all persons held as slaves’ within the rebellious states ‘are, and henceforward shall be free.’ “Despite this expansive wording, the Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded from the United States, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. It also expressly exempted parts of the Confederacy (the Southern secessionist states) that had already come under Northern control. Most important, the freedom it promised depended upon Union (United States) military victory. “Although the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the nation, it captured the hearts and imagination of millions of Americans and fundamentally transformed the character of the war. After January 1, 1863, every advance of federal troops expanded the domain of freedom. Moreover, the Proclamation announced the acceptance of Black men into the Union Army and Navy, enabling the liberated to become liberators.
