Based on the conversations I have been privy to, the collective hope of the industry regarding the departure of Amazon Prime from Africa is that it will catalyze innovation and self-reliance. Nollywood's superpower is overcoming constraints through creativity and resilience so we are uniquely positioned to navigate this new landscape. This could mean a stronger focus on local and regional streaming platforms, which, though smaller in reach, offer greater flexibility and alignment with Nollywood's creative ambitions. It could also spur the industry to explore new funding models, distribution channels, and collaborative ventures that could pave the way for a more sustainable and self-sufficient future. Moreover, this moment might encourage us to reevaluate the value and power of African storytelling in the global landscape, prompting both creators and audiences to champion homegrown platforms that understand and celebrate the nuances of African narratives. In doing so, Nollywood could lead by example, showing that the heart of cinema lies not in the size of its platform but in the depth of its stories and the passion of those who bring them to life.
