Here is the review I wrote of it soon after its publication.: Book Review Paul G Power OAM PhD FAPS FCOP Personality: A User’s Guide. Yankov, G & Mikhailov, N; Robinson, London, 2024; x + 374, Paperback, AUD$34.99 The cover of this book quotes Robert Hogan, founder and President of Hogan Assessment Systems, as saying that this is “the best introduction to personality psychology I have ever read.” This is high praise indeed from a man who has spent his entire career working in the field of personality psychology and has built a solid reputation as a researcher and practitioner in that domain. The book more than lives up to this high praise. It brings a refreshing, innovative, integrating and integrative approach to the whole field of personality psychology, and does so in a way that makes its content eminently accessible to experts in the field, academic psychologists and practitioners who wish to learn more about it, and ordinary people who would like to deepen their awareness of themselves. At the recent APA Convention , I posed one critical question to a candidate running for the American Psychological Association presidency: "What's your plan regarding licensure for master's level candidates in psychology?" We are working on it ‘they said’. Many passionate individuals find themselves pushed towards a doctoral degree, realizing it's the path they must take. It's essential to address the hurdles faced by young professionals, especially those from marginalized communities, in accessing job opportunities and financing their education within the field of psychology. This industry must strive to include everyone, ensuring that the theme of 'ALL IN' at the last convention truly encompasses every individual at the table. #APAconvention #communitypsychology #apaconvention2024 #education #APA #marginalizedpeople #licensure

The constant scrutiny, questioning of our credibility, and ever present moving of the bar creates an untenable environment 🙄 Yet…. It only strengthens my drive to stick to my WHY. My WHY is to collectively create an academic environment wherein all people thrive, feel safe, and belong. Where difference is celebrated and supported.   At Case Western Reserve University, we called it “bent arrows”. Bent arrows were celebrated and given the highlight.   In the School of Medicine where I had a secondary faculty appointment. We actively sought them out as students and faculty.   No I won’t give up.  This energizes me. What energizes you? What's your WHY? Use it! Create an academic life that helps you to thrive. To “Be You, Do You, Promote You”.   Currently, I am fulfilling my WHY 1 person at a time via my coaching services. That person can then pass on the strategy and tactics to others to create a better #academic life”   Let’s do this!
