Let’s actually break down a shoot. I wanted to give you an example as to what’s actually going through my mind while filming sport. So it’s case study time, a game day with the wonderful crew at Geelong United Basketball earlier this year. My main overall point is this - everything has a purpose. There’s a ton of different ways you can utilise video and photo content from one shoot. From this game day we captured in-game highlights, game day experience, fan interviews, player interviews, fan engagement, activations, and player profiling. It’s then broken down into what we want it to achieve: - Is it showcasing the quality of product? In this case, how talented both Geelong teams are. - Is it trying to drive attendance and viewership? - Is it driving brand growth? - Is it about how the community of Geelong? - Is it driving player profiles and who’s actually on the team? Today, I am going to be a bit vulnerable. Most of you know me from a sports marketing/partnership standpoint. I couldn't be more grateful for the journey that has led me to where I am today, between the brands I have worked for and with, the places I have been able to go, and most importantly, the people I have met along the way. With that said, many of you do not know that I have been working on a side hustle in the shadows. What started as a creative outlet during the pandemic, my sports photography has become instrumental in my everyday life and is a huge passion of mine. The journey with Fifth Edition Photography has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. Constantly suffering from imposter syndrome, I questioned if my shots would resonate. I questioned if my work was good to post and be noticed by brands, athletes, or wire services. Fast forward to today, and I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for the growth I have accomplished and support I've experienced in the last few years. I have made some amazing connections and shot for some amazing leagues/teams. But here's the thing – growth doesn't happen in isolation. I'm posting today to connect with fellow photographers, brands, and artists. I'd love to create with others, learn from others, and grow as a photographer. Ideally, I'd love to find a seasoned sports photographer to be a mentor and be there for the ups and downs of my journey.
