Such a privilege to be working with these incredible social leaders working across a range of issues such as bringing healthcare to the most remote and underserved populations, destigmatising and widening access to mental health support and improving access to higher education through ethical financial products. The common thread between these diverse organisations? An ambition to truly disrupt the status quo, solve market failures and create long-lasting change. This week we focused on what it would take to 100x their impact and came away with exciting pathways to explore, from influencing markets by proving a new asset class to creating the guidelines for ethical use of AI in mental health to open sourcing technologies and models for scale. We appreciate her insights into rural leadership. What has been the impact of REDI or HGL on your leadership journey since completing the training, both personally and professionally? After attending both REDI and Leadership NC, I returned to my community and shared the opportunity with others. The push-back, total disinterest, and other mentioned roadblocks were fascinating to me. Some valid, some - just where you put your priorities. So, seven years ago, I worked to start a leadership program for our rural region. We are in the seventh year of hosting the program and will have over 100 alumni after the graduation in April 2024 from Leadership Chatuge Community Builders. What recent accomplishments, projects, initiatives, or points of pride would you like to share? Increasing awareness of the need for rural leadership development but the obstacles in attendance. Also, the critical need for solid infrastructure! What are the greatest assets in your rural community or region? The natural beauty. The retirees who are willing to volunteer. The people. What are the most significant economic development challenges facing your rural community or region today? Lack of knowledge about how the region operates, substance use, lack of economic opportunity, generational poverty, housing, transportation, etc. What advice would you offer to current or emerging leaders in rural areas? Listen closely and meet them where they are in order to make progress.
