LGBTQ+ led and serving organizations are chronically under resourced. According to Funders for LGBQT Issues’ Grantmaking by US Foundations Report, for every $100 awarded by US foundations in 2021, only 28 cents specifically supported LGBTQ communities and issues; foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to trans communities and issues. These numbers are alarming, but they speak to the lack of investment in LGBTQ+ led and serving work - Which is why organizations like ours are so reliant on community donations! Please join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives and futures of systems-impacted trans and queer people this Give OUT Day! https://lnkd.in/gzupHnkN

WHY IT MATTERS:
Thrilled that M&T Bank is supporting the Equality Community Center with $20,000 to further their mission and important work. We look forward to partnering with the ECC throughout the year and making a difference in our community! The Equality Community Center (ECC) in Portland is the first of its kind in Maine - a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice-seeking non-profit organizations while also serving as a community center for Maine’s LGBTQ+ community. My colleagues Mike Ross, Isaac Yeboah Yeboah, Katie Rooks of M&T Bank, and Wilmington Trust's Jerry Weidner of Wilmington Trust enjoyed a tour and presented a $20,000 donation to the ECC. “The funds from The M&T Charitable Foundation will support our efforts so we can continue to provide a space where everyone can be their authentic selves and thrive.” - Chris O’Connor, Executive Director, ECC Board

Today our we presented the results of our LGBTQIA+ survey. Some worrying statistics which show that prejudice and harassment still exists. Part of the purpose of the survey was to discover how we at Citizens Advice Gateshead might be able to help. We discovered that while 68% of respondents knew about Citizens Advice only 37% knew what sorts of services we provide. Then sadly 45% of respondents weren't sure if they would be comfortable coming to see us for information, advice and guidance and from the comments we surmised that people were worried about their confidentiality and being "outed". So our event today was timely and we had some really good conversations with our guests including Fighting With Pride - LGBT+ Military Charity, AKT and Pride in Mind about what the next steps might be. One of our first next steps is our dedicated drop-in for LGBTQIA+ people which is taking place Sunday 1st October between 10 and 2. If you'd like to know more about our project or about the drop-in then please drop me a message. #lgbtqsupport #inclusivespaces #pride

Did you know that Reach is the single largest source of trustees to the voluntary sector? 📊 In 2023, charities appointed 1,539 trustees through our service – including 67 chairs, 150 treasurers, 58 trustees with experience in income generation, 47 with an HR background and 25 ‘digital’ trustees. 💪 Not only did these trustees bring essential expertise to the boards they joined – they also brought much needed diversity. 🙌 Reach applicants were more likely than the general UK population to identify as LGBTQ+ or as coming from a global majority community. 🌈 They were also far more diverse in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability than trustees as a whole. Find out more in our 2023 Impact report: https://buff.ly/3UCpINI #Diversity #Trustees #Leadership #ImpactReport

It's #GivingTuesday and we need your support to make GLAAD's mission of 100% acceptance of LGBTQ people become a reality. In the past year, we've seen 500+ anti-LGBTQ bills introduced and 700+ acts of anti-LGBTQ extremism. With the 2024 elections coming up and the increase in anti-LGBTQ rhetoric on social media and the legislature, we anticipate those numbers increasing and need your support in amplifying our work. Your donation supports: The GLAAD Storytelling Initiative where we use evidence-based media strategies to mobilize even more people around LGBTQ #equality, especially transgender rights and safety. The GLAAD News & Rapid Response Team as it offers real-time crisis communications, trains #LGBTQ people and allies to be effective voices for equality, and works with journalists to cover LGBTQ stories with richness and compassion. The GLAAD Media Guides, which let LGBTQ people lead the conversation, whether it's about growing HIV awareness in the U.S.' Deep South or tracking LGBTQ characters in major motion pictures. The GLAAD Media Institute's Advocacy, Education, and Training team create representation firsts like the GLAAD Gaming Index for LGBTQ #representation in gaming, and the inaugural Black Queer Creative Summit in Los Angeles — and ensure that those firsts aren't the last. Today, 28 May, is LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day. This important day reminds us that domestic and family violence (DFV) can occur in LGBTQIA+ relationships, and it’s crucial to believe and support survivors and those struggling in abusive situations. The statistics are alarming: 61% of LGBTQIA+ people have experienced violence from an intimate partner, and 81% with severe disabilities have experienced family violence (AIHW). At Out For Australia, we stand in solidarity with those affected by intimate partner and family violence. It is essential to raise awareness and take action against this pervasive issue not just today, but every day. For more information and resources on how to take action, visit: 🌈 LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation: www.dvafoundation.org 🌈 Say It Out Loud: sayitoutloud.org.au Together, we can create a safer and more supportive community for everyone. 💪🏳️🌈 #LGBTQDVADay #EndDV #SupportSurvivors #OutForAustralia
