WHEN WE BREAK THE RULES I can't count the number of times I have broken some sort of rules, or law. Some are trivial, while some are not, but they were largely inconsequential and did no harm. No harm to another human being that is. To the kid who changes his report card to show better grades, do we applaud his creativity and craftsmanship, or criticise his dishonesty? I have so many such stories from my life and career, and I wonder if they should be shared at all... What do my LinkedIn friends think? I can resonate with many thoughts Arnold Schwarzenegger raises in this interview. Especially to accept challenging moments, failures, losses and tensions in life and between people in order to fulfill your potential and to develop as a human. It basically starts with educating your children. If you only strive for the comfort zone and allow no challenges or explorations where you could fail, the children will not be prepared what life throws at them later on. Falling, Standing Up, Feeling the discomfort in order to know what comfort really means. Are we willing that our children and ourselves are stressed in order to feel relaxed, feel tension to be relieved, to fight in order to enjoy peacefulness and so on? My opinion is that we need to accept much more that we will definitely fail at times, feel uncomfortable, realised that we took the wrong path or struggle in life and then to also speak openly about it and accept what is. Everyone faces their trials and tribulations. Arnie is right: Our Kids need to get prepared for the world outside the comfort zone by experimenting, trying, exploration, jumping. Title: My Journey: From Finance to Entrepreneurship - #SoVonnasDiary Thanks to my friend Tanyette for inviting me to speak at the ‘Regal Resilience’ Event at Art Basel in Miami, I am able reflect on my evolution from a senior finance leader to an entrepreneur. My path defined by resilience and challenges. In finance, as one of the few senior Black women, I bore the burden of representing both my race and gender, often feeling isolated in my struggle to prove my worth. 🌐 Now, as an entrepreneur, the challenges persist, but the landscape has shifted. Black women entrepreneurs like me, while few, hold vast dreams yet face significant barriers, notably in funding. Receiving less than 1% of all private equity and venture capital, we're often left to navigate a lonely and unsupported journey. 💸 The transition from corporate to entrepreneurship has highlighted a stark truth: resilience, while a strength, comes at a high emotional and physical cost. 🤝 As this year ends, I urge those in privileged positions to act. Moving beyond acknowledgment to action is crucial.
