So, I made a mistake recently and I paid the prices. The connection with the audience was not there. Probably because my worldview was not one they appreciated. Indigenous Youth as Agents of Self-determination & Change, is a powerful theme and call to action: How are you engaging the incredible creativity, intelligence and brilliance of Aboriginal children and young people to guide and shape our services, spaces and communities?
August 9th is the International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples. This year’s theme is Indigenous youths as agents of change for self-determination. At the Commission this theme is close to our hearts. We are so fortunate to have Aboriginal children and young people guide and shape our work. Today, we’d like to acknowledge and thank them for all that they do.

The story of my Catalan ancestors, the Ferran and Subira families, is a testament to the resilience, determination, and pursuit of freedom that defines the Catalan people. Fleeing Franco's oppressive regime during the Spanish Civil War, they embarked on a courageous journey from Catalonia to seek refuge in pre-Castro Cuba, where they began rebuilding their lives, preserving their Catalan heritage amidst a foreign land. Their quest for a brighter future took them to pre-Castro Cuba, where they established themselves and worked hard to create a new life. However, in 1961, when Castro took over in a coup, they found themselves fleeing communism once more, leading them to seek exile in Miami, Florida, where I was born. The vibrant Cuban exile community in Miami welcomed the Catalan families with open arms, offering them a new beginning in a land that embraced their resilience and the values they held dear. My personal connection to this story reflects the Catalan character, valuing hard work, honesty, and respect for others. Growing up in Miami, I inherited the Catalan appreciation for diversity, forging lifelong friendships and embracing the unique blend of cultures that define my hometown. This tale of my family's journey from Catalonia to pre-Castro Cuba and then to exile in Miami is more than just history—it's a living legacy of bravery and adaptability, a story of escaping oppression not once, but twice, and it continues to shape my character, influencing how I approach life and blending the best of two worlds into a unique and inspiring narrative. https://lnkd.in/g5aC5jfY
