Shelterforce - Veteran Housing Corp suggests that there is STILL A LOT OF WORK TO DO. NOTHING BUT A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE NATION'S GOVERNMENT FINANCED HOUSING PROGRAMS WILL RESOLVE THE NATION'S AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS As STAKEHOLDERS in the #affordablehousing space, isn't it our responsibility to present new ideas, innovation, and foster change for the betterment of society and our communities. My hope is that every #affordablehousing stakeholder will bring this most important issue to light and contact their local, state, and federal housing officials and work to OVERHAUL a broken system I am not advocating for another government social program, but rather that governments (local, state, and federal) should be responsible when investing taxpayer dollars in program that are meant to serve their constituents. Those programs must provide permanent solutions that pay for themselves. If you the ultra rich, private developers, for-profit companies or non-profit developers wish to build whatever mixed-use project, affordable-, workforce- or market-rate rent projects, they should be free to do so, but not at taxpayer expense! The affordable housing crisis facing America is something only new and innovative ideas and solutions will work, not more of the same old way of doing business and wasting trillions in taxpayer supported programs that have failed miserably in the past! Veteran Housing Corp suggests local, state, and federal governments overhaul the current housing programs and adopt a coordinated VIENNA HOUSING MODEL How We Can Bring Vienna’s Housing Model to the U.S. https://lnkd.in/esjumDf3 via @shelterforce
Why give to Shelterforce? Over the years we’ve ramped up our efforts to give you more below-the-surface views of the affordable housing issues you care about, and in ways that are most useful to you. With your donation today, we can continue being the publication you’ve come to trust and rely on to make sense of the difficult issues that face our communities: https://lnkd.in/e7Y4S2bs #Give2Shelterforce #SupportIndependentJournalism #HousingJusticeNews

Senior Director Regulatory Affairs, Incident Management & QFR Centre of Excellence @ Loblaw | Founder @ SweetLemonAID
A few year’s ago my family joined our first JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes in Toronto. We were incredibly inspired by JDRF’s commitment to improving lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and its complications. We were overcome with emotion being surrounded by other T1D families, ambassadors, and dedicated volunteers and staff. Our hearts were filled with hope for a bright future for our son Ashton, and all Canadians living with T1D. Experiencing this profound sense of community, we knew we had to be a part of JDRF’s mission to advance T1D, to find a cure, and to accelerate the pace of research to get closer to the goal of a world without diabetes. This is why it means so much to our family to be a part of the JDRF Holiday Match program. A cure for T1D would mean everything. It would mean no more finger pricks, no more needles, no fear of complications, no life-threatening urgent low blood sugars, and no more sleepless nights. It would mean Ashton could be present in every moment of every day, instead of worrying about what the next moment may bring. It would mean no children would have to live with T1D. Today, and every day, we dream of a cure and we never give up! 💙 #givingseason #diabetesawareness
Managing T1D is not easy – and this time of year is especially challenging. That’s why JDRF needs your help to change the reality of daily life with T1D for the better. Until Dec 31st, your donations will be MATCHED by a group of caring T1D families. Make 2x the impact → https://ow.ly/yHwy50QjU9U We wish you and yours the happiest of holiday seasons! 💙 #givingseason #diabetesawareness

In Boston, and everywhere there are many buildings and offices vacant on any given day. This interesting conversation about donating the space either partially or totally to nonprofits in need of space is worth a listen. Often funders review overhead when deciding to invest in nonprofits, one of the biggest items other than staff is space. If you have vacant offices, consider partnering with a nonprofit, not only for the tax benefits, but for the social good.

Why Your 'Yes' Matters Immediate Impact: Every dollar you contribute brings us closer to saying 'Yes' to another family in need of a home. Immediate relief and long-term stability begin with your donation. A Lasting Legacy: The homes we build are not just for one holiday season; they are for lifetimes, for families to grow, and for communities to flourish. Help Solve the Crisis: BC is in a housing crisis. The more times we can say 'Yes', the more we can ease the burden on struggling families, one home at a time. So, will you say 'Yes' with us? Your gift could be the difference between a family celebrating the holidays in the harsh cold or within the warm walls of their own home. This Christmas, be the magic in someone's story. Say 'Yes' to hope, 'Yes' to love, and 'Yes' to a better future for all. Donate today, and let your 'Yes' ring true. www.habitatdonate.com Pictured: One of the units your donations helped build at 1375 Piercy Ave, in Courtenay.
