In a recent video ad, SHRM CEO made the point that no matter who wins the US election, SHRM would be in the room.
Let's challenge the narrative that Inclusion is equity, so equity does not need to be called out blah, blah, blah...Equity is critical in the DEI journey and needs a clear focused effort.
Back to being in the room. Having a seat at the table is a start, but it's not enough. We need courageous leaders at the table, not just rebranding messengers who buckle under political pressure.
To create truly inclusive workplaces, we must actively champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
SHRM's recent decision to focus on Inclusion while removing Equity from their DEI initiatives is concerning. While Inclusion is vital, Equity is equally critical. It addresses systemic barriers that prevent equal opportunities and outcomes, especially for marginalized communities.
Why Equity is Essential:
1. Tackles root causes of inequality
2. Ensures fairness in opportunities and resources
3. Creates sustainable, lasting change
4. Equity provides the actionable efforts that lead to Inclusion
5. Without equity, we lose a lot of people along the way
As DEI advocates, we must challenge this shift. Our responsibility is to promote a comprehensive approach that incorporates all aspects of DEI.
Let's not just put a fresh coat of paint on this. If you are in the room, push the boundaries and keep Equity at the core of our efforts.
Together we can show real leadership and build workplaces where everyone genuinely belongs and thrives. Check out the article below.
