Pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest malignancies in large part due to therapeutic resistance. To identify and characterize candidate interactions between cancer cells and fibroblasts that mediate therapeutic resistance, the Hwang Lab at the Harvard Medical School utilized the Parse Evercode WT v2 assay to profile differences between tumor-derived and pancreatic stellate cells in a tumoroid co-culture model. #China’s proper tech — Chinese scientists have developed a new strategy for treating a form of highly aggressive breast cancer by converting treatment-resistant tumours to a more treatable state. Prostate cancer ranks as the second most prevalent cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men globally. Despite several treatment options, tumors can turn resistant against therapy, leaving a high unmet medical need for patients. Recently published in Clinical Cancer Research, researchers from Bayer | Oncology in collaboration with Minerva Imaging unveiled preclinical efficacy of a PSMA-targeted alpha therapy (225Ac-pelgi), presenting a promising avenue for improved patient outcomes. 225Ac-pelgi shows robust anti-tumor efficacy in several preclinical mouse models including C4-2, LNCaP, and KUCaP-1. As shown on the figure below, the study demonstrated that the combination of 225Ac-pelgi and darolutamide enhanced the efficacy over respective monotherapies in the ST1273 prostate patient-derived xenograft model obtained from XenoSTART, figure from Schatz et all, Clinical Cancer Research 2024. I am pleased to announce the publication of our research article in the Journal of Biomedical Science. The paper, titled "EpCAM-targeted betulinic acid analogue nanotherapy enhances therapeutic efficacy and stimulates anti-tumor immune response in colorectal cancer microenvironment," presents our latest findings in cancer treatment. This study explores an innovative approach to colorectal cancer therapy, combining targeted nanomedicine with immunomodulation. Our research demonstrates how EpCAM-targeted nanoparticles delivering a betulinic acid analogue not only improve direct therapeutic outcomes but also promote a favorable immune response within the tumor microenvironment. It's Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. To uncover new treatment options, preclinical models need to better recapitulate human disease, including the tumor microenvironment (TME) which contributes to drug resistance. Cutting-edge immuno-oncology technologies also need to be explored. This White Paper presents orthotopic tumor homografts as a clinically-relevant pancreatic cancer preclinical model, which more accurately replicates the TME in vivo. Despite $700MM invested in breast cancer research annually, 97% of breast cancer drug candidates fail in clinical development. The National Institutes of Health formed the MicroPhysiological Systems (MPS) program to improve breast cancer drug development success. Research published by Frank Lau, MD, FACS, et. al., in the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) presents a method for generating MPS for breast cancers.
