When parents lie to their children or tell half-truths, it’s often because of their own discomfort rather than the childs. However, sugar-coating the truth will usually backfire as children eventually uncover the truth themselves. Honesty is incredibly important to children, even though for parents, it can be hard. Fiona discussed five strategies with Unzela Khan Sheikh that can help make it easier to navigate honesty with children. Spouse dispute Avoid engaging in disputes with your spouse regarding discipline in front of your child. When children witness disagreements, they become uncertain about how to respond to discipline. Instead, they may exploit these disagreements to evade discipline, offer excuses, or favor one parent to fulfill specific desires. For discipline to be successful, it's crucial to present a united front with your spouse. What to do: Parents should set aside 30 minutes once a month to discuss their child's behavior, physical requirements, educational needs, and so forth. This approach ensures that parents' decisions, whether they say 'Yes' or 'No,' are aligned in most situations. These are excellent descriptions of behaviors. Spot on!
Alienating parents employ manipulative tactics to control their children's time and interactions with you (a 'target' parent), exploiting any freedom, possessions, or privileges the child may have, such as owning a car or having a mobile phone. They may dangle bribes in front of them: If you do this, if you don't do that .... there will be consequences. Ultimately, although cruel to the child, these manipulative strategies aim to undermine their relationship with you. One common tactic is constant communication via text messages, creating a sense of dependency and reinforcing the alienating parent's influence. It could be apparently caring: Are you sure you want to stay that long? Are you sure everything is ok? Creating doubt and fear in the child's mind is something they particularly seem to enjoy. They typically demand the child's return early, using various excuses to limit the time spent with you, as they try to erode the bond, and sever it completely. The alienated child, conditioned to obey these intrusive demands, might not perceive them as coercive due to their normalised nature. Over time, the child's loyalty and acquiescence to these unnecessary, intrusive requests become concerning. They don't recognise (nor do others) that the alienating behaviour is profoundly manipulative and emotionally abusive, subtly eroding the child's autonomy and reinforcing the covert control over them. Do you have any examples? Parents- write out your boundaries, but let your children contribute to them so it can change from being a one-sided rule to a mutual understanding. That way, if your child breaks any of the boundaries discussed, they already had knowledge of the consequences they would face. #parents #parenting #parenttips #parentingtips #knowledge #boundaries #thedrrj #parentsofteens #smileinout #consequences #understanding

Untwisting Their Demands for Respect Children are taught from the youngest of ages to respect and honor their parents. This belief is included in the Ten Commandments and in some form in all religions. In healthy family systems, respect can be a wonderful concept to uphold. However, what happens to the child who is not respected or honored by their parents? Again, it begs the question, how does it make sense for parents to hold a child, who is far less skilled and mature, responsible for their problems rather than themselves? Yet, toxic parents get away with holding children accountable for their own problems all the time. As discussed earlier, this may safeguard society’s need to protect parents, but it fails to address the real problem: bad parents. It seems strange and wrong to give abusive parents a public free pass, allowing them to hide in plain sight. Perhaps it’s simply too painful to admit that abuse happens in our closest quarters and to the most innocent members of our human family: our children.

It may seem like your #child or #teenager is intentionally ignoring you when you talk. But there are lots of underlying reasons your child may not be #listening. If you want to #improvelistening, start with addressing what is making listening hard for your child. Changes in environment and routine can make a lot of kids feel more on edge, even when they are excited. These feelings can increase #behaviors and #challenges as well as increasing listening complaints from #parents. The Best Advice I Have Given A Parent. In my 8 years of being around kids,I can confidently say that "every child no matter the family demography , age, school or religious circle has at least once a day been presented the opportunity to choose" My Simple Advice is this; Teach, Show & Pray for your Kids to make Good Choices! "Under normal circumstances a child between the age of 4 at most 7 knows what's good and bad and is eligible to make age appropriate decisions " Don't take it from me please verify . The earlier you start the better, be like your father God set the options to decide over and show them how to choose by choosing. √ Allow your kids to make age-appropriate decisions. √ Encourage critical thinking. √ Model good decision-making. √ Help them learn from mistakes. √ Discuss indecisiveness. √ Provide them with support for decisions. √ Encourage goal setting. √ Teach your child to handle money properly. √ Teach kids about the consequences of their decisions. √ Encourage kids to take risks. Because there will always be a juncture in your relationship with your child that things will not make sense to you and them. Teach, Show & Pray them into good decision making such that even as these disalignment occur they'll choose to stand Right . The truth is: if we're sincere for some of us, our parents didn't do much to make us "this good" just like the prodigal son we came to ourselves and made/make decisions and choices that changed ourselves to our and their awe! I see you do Right! St. Thevine Yaoh #family #decision #upbringing #choice #help #bond #parenting
