🐦Found a fledgling bird on the ground? Here's what to do: 1️⃣ Assess the situation: Is the bird injured? Is it in immediate danger from predators or traffic? 2️⃣ Keep your distance: Fledglings are often learning to fly and may appear vulnerable, but they're usually under the watchful eye of their parents. 3️⃣ Monitor from afar: If the bird seems healthy and there are no immediate threats, it's best to leave it alone. Its parents are likely nearby and will continue to care for it. 4️⃣ Provide shelter: If the bird is in a dangerous location, gently move it to a nearby bush or tree where it can seek safety. 5️⃣ Contact experts: If you're unsure or if the bird appears injured, contact your local wildlife rehabilitation centre, like Lower Moss Wood, for guidance. 🐰 Animals stuck in window wells is a common wildlife emergency call that we receive at Greenwood. If the critter is unharmed, we typically recommend donning protective gear and scooping the animal out of the well. For some species, like foxes or raccoons, we recommend placing a  wooden plank covered in towels in the well to help them crawl out on their own. If the animal is injured from the fall  or they have become severely dehydrated and malnourished from being trapped, these wild ones need to come to Greenwood for treatment. 🏠 Fortunately, these situations can be prevented by installing covers over window wells. They can be purchased in all sizes to fit any window, and can even be custom made. Look for a tight seal so little critters can’t squeeze through the gaps! Rescued by Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, orphaned elephants find surrogate family in human nannies, guiding them through trauma. Reteti's dedicated keepers play a pivotal role, teaching vital skills like finding food and avoiding threats. The orphans form a strong, albeit small, herd with robust family bonds. Long'uro, despite losing much of his trunk to hyenas after falling into a well, thrives with Reteti's support, challenging assumptions about elephant survival.
