According to a Deloitte report, #Telcos have failed to translate their crucial role in connectivity to their shareholder returns. Telcos’ shareholder return started lagging behind the broader financial markets in 2017. Not only that, they are even struggling to make a return on investment. The shift in telcos’ strategic position Customers’ perceptions of telcos have changed: where they once provided premium services, they are now increasingly regarded as offering a commodity, akin to gas, electricity or water. As consumers engage with the internet and applications (spotify, netflix, instagram, youtube etc.), they pay little attention to which telco they use. In effect, telcos have lost their functional and emotional differentiators, forcing them to compete purely on price. The Telcos have two options to play:  1. Compete on price by reducing costs of infrastructure and operations 2. AdaniConneX, the joint venture (JV) between Adani Enterprises Limited, and EdgeConneX, is reportedly planning to invest $5 billion in the next five years to expand its data centre business, of which more than half could be ploughed in 2024 itself. According to the sources, of the $5 billion investment plan, promoter equity infusions would account for around a quarter.
