"Cracking the Collaboration Code" to allow individuals and teams to connect more authentically, engage more respectfully, and work more effectively together.
What a fabulous week in the Canadian Rockies!! I recently returned from a Backroads multi-adventure sport trip from Banff to Jasper. While on the trip I was reading "The Progress Principle" by Teresa Amabile and Steven Kramer. It was like I was living the book while watching our trip leaders (Jean-Philippe McCluskey, Lily Seedhouse, and @Tealia Palmer-Ruben) in action. Our leaders demonstrated the two forces that enable motivation and engagement: 1. "Catalysts" such as autonomy, clear goals, resources, and adequate time. 2. "Nourishers" such as encouragement, respect, and collegiality. Check out the book if you want to learn more. Plus watch for my August newsletter when I talk about Cracking the Code of Change. #teamwork #collaboration #respect #changemanagement #travel

Real Estate Lawyer in Spain Specializing in Non-Resident Investors | Mortgage Broker in Spain | Managing Partner at Hoteland | Partner at LexQuire Spain
🙋♀️ Leading a team effectively is more than just a responsibility; it's an art that requires understanding, empathy, and leadership. As the head of Hoteland's legal department, I recognize the importance of connecting with my team, acknowledging their needs, and enhancing their skills. ☕ Today, I had the pleasure of sharing a cappuccino break with Sergio Lozano (lawyer) and Samuel López (mortgage broker), two essential professionals in our team. 🌐 Taking a break from our busy schedules allowed us to connect on a personal level, which in turn made our collaboration in the Palma office more effective. These moments of connection not only strengthen our working relationship but also underscore the value of collaboration and teamwork. #Pausa #Teamwork #Hoteland #Leadership

Having come back from Barcelona and seeing some more of Gaudí’s work, I’m sure he wasn’t good at everything he touched, although it sometimes feels that way. Recognising someone's talent and playing to their strengths is a fundamental aspect of effective leadership and personal development. It involves acknowledging an individual's unique skills and abilities, and then creating opportunities that allow them to excel in those areas. By doing so, not only can we harness their full potential, but we also foster a sense of fulfilment and motivation within them. This approach not only benefits the individual but can also lead to increased productivity and success in various tasks, whether in a professional or personal context. It's a win-win strategy that promotes both personal growth and the achievement of collective goals. #growthmindset #talent #recognistion #gaudi

Portfolio Chair in PE backed services and software businesses | Interim Executive leading complex transformation and M&A integrations. Writer, panelist, and podcaster on Boards, Transformation and M&A deals.
Great to attend the Non-Executive Director Awards yesterday at Claridge's. The lifetime achievement award went to Sir Nigel Rudd who did a great speech on what being a good chair means (right strategy and CEO), some funny anecdotes on AGMs and Committee meetings but perhaps most profoundly talked about always feeling like an outsider. Being from Derby (nothing wrong with that!), not particularly enjoying networking and feeling Davos is best for skiing. I think there is something powerful about being on the outside. An outsider is not a strange person without friends. Instead, they are someone who challenges accepted values and wisdom. An insider adopts the accepted standards, an outsider challenges and changes those standards. An outsider is more likely to be more curious, insightful, questioning and healthily suspicious so the board does not become an echo chamber. An outsider does not interfere in management’s role but equally should not be a step removed the often termed ‘nose not hands in the tent’ is the balance to aim for. Outsiders have a unique advantage in framing issues by drawing on a range of experiences. They are also more likely to be attune to signals of wider cultural failings. Being an outsider sounds like a pretty good advantage to being a NED to me. Congratulations to all who made the event a huge success. #governance #boardmembers

We can learn so much from wolves. Did you know all wolf packs have an alpha male and female? There is something to be said about joint leadership, the yin and yang balance. When wolf packs travel or hunt, they follow one another's footprints in the snow to conserve energy. Just as in business, you don't need to reinvent the wheel everyday. Good leadership creates the footprint (the vision) in which the pack follows, contributing their skills to the pack. There are no 'subgroups' within a pack. Great leaders create leaders. Scaling your organization requires a flatter heirarchy. As apex predators, wolves do not care for their sick or weak. They are left behind because wolves are not equipped to handle caring for the sick. As humans, we are more compassionate and have the ability to care for our sick. In business, there is a time when letting someone go must happen. (See my post later this week discussing how this can be a big favor to an employee who is struggling to succeed!) In the end, leadership is about serving your pack. If you aren't doing what is best for your pack and prioritizing your own ambitions first, you are not a good leader. #leadership #servantleader #greatleaders

Best quote of 2023 is from the Owner of the winner of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. “To be honest, I don't actually do much on that boat. I find it performs better when I'm asleep". I have learned a lot about delegation since COVID. Pre 2020 I believed that I had to control every detail. This is because I was accountable for outcomes on the ground in China. During COVID I couldn’t be on the ground so was forced to delegate to my Team in China who did a better job than I would’ve done because: 1. They are knowledgeable and competent. 2. The required outcomes were clear, 3. They knew HOW it should be done (local knowledge) 4. They were empowered to get it done. Going back to the example of the Yacht Race. Be clear about the goal, build the right team to achieve the goal and then get out of their way. #leadership #supplychain #privatelabel #sustainability #modernslavery https://lnkd.in/gAKJcXDr

This week was BUSY! I represented Strategy Leaders, Inc. at the CD/National Limousine Association - NLA show in Las Vegas, diving deep into the chauffeured transportation industry. Here's what went down: Education First: Attended sessions, absorbed groundbreaking strategies, and gleaned insights that I'm eager to pass on to my clients. The focus? Enhancing efficiency and profitability in the transportation sector. Networking on Steroids: Hit the show floors and parties. The result? Rich conversations, potential collaborations, and building business relationships. Client-Centric Approach: Every session, every interaction was with my clients in mind. Why? Because their success is our success. This experience was more than just a trip. It was a commitment to stay ahead, to ensure our clients are not just keeping pace but leading the charge in their industry. #BusinessConsulting #StrategyLeaders #Networking #ChauffeurDriven
