I’ve always believed that the world can be better. As (arguably) the most sophisticated species on the plant, I’ve always believed in the good of humans too. Coaching has made me a better person. I’m not saying I’m perfect or have it all figured out. Far from it! I still mess up and have wobbles the same as everyone else. But I do have a deeper sense of trust, access to tools to know what to do when I’m tested, and my resting happiness state is much higher than it ever was before. Coaching helps us to understand what we want and what matters to us but also, importantly, why it matters. This is the deeper sense of meaning and the feeling we are ultimately seeking. Happiness. In the context of a democracy predicated on reaching consensus, voting day is less about blue and red (or yellow or purple), left or right and what policy each party “commits” to, with or without a credible plan on how they will deliver. Voting day is more about what kind of society do we as voters really value? Democracy is not then about what can we concede, but more about what can we create together? If we can start from this place, the possibilities become wild. In any people context, coaching helps us all to see the other party for the person they are and their hopes, dreams, fears and doubts. I’ve yet to meet a human that doest want to be happy, secure, have purpose, freedom of choice and access to resources to enact their choices. So on polling day, I care less about where you put your X. I care more about how informed you are about what really matters to you and why, and what kind of world you want to live in. Whatever the outcome, what role do all of us need to play in making our society fair, free and kind, and one where we can all thrive? PM’s come and go (some much quicker than others). Ruling parties come and go. Our society endures and we must think longer term and more altruistically about what really matters. So the General Election is now upon us, as a Stakeholder Engagement and Political Communications Consultancy you would expect us to be excited about the prospect and you wouldn't be disappointed.
