Thank you Fortune Broadsheet for underlining how HIGH the stakes are when 80% of women feel lonely because of their jobs—and for helping us re-focus on the solution of creating togetherness. Thank you Emma Hinchliffe and Alexa Mikhail for shining your big spotlight on these issues! The full Broadsheet newsletter is here: https://lnkd.in/gq5gu9jQ With gratitude to Berlin Cameron and BSG who partnered with TheLi.st on this research.

It is so important to note that while as women climb the corporate ladder, their loneliness increases, your data show that the loneliness among men actually decreases! This makes sense when you look at the raw numbers of men vs. women who are making it to senior leadership positions. But it adds the nuance of partly *why* the women who get to the top aren't staying there as long as their men peers: In 2023, Fortune 500 CEOs that were men ran their firms for an average of 7.2 years, while the average tenure for women was 4.5 years. Part of this has to do with the isolation and loneliness. At Lean In we see similarly alarming data points that demonstrate the impact of being an “Only”—or the only or one of the only person of your identity in the room at work. Onlys are more likely to feel burned out at work and less likely to feel they have an equal opportunity for advancement.  Thanks for sharing and starting a conversation Ann Shoket.
