This is the one thing me and my dad disagree on💔. First of all my dad is my biggest idol and much of the person I am today is testament to him. However If there is one thing we disagree on its this. My dad of course being a traditional Nigerian parent doesn’t believe in following your passion. He believes there are certain opportunities in certain industries that will make you a lot of money that we should all follow. You can properly guess what these are… Doctor Lawyer Etc… I thoroughly believe you should follow your passions and what comes natural to you. And it’s not just because it will make you happier which is a very important reason. It’s also the only way i believe you can become an A player. You may become an C player , maybe even a B player but never an A player. And it’s the only way you will compete with other A players. Bill gates started coding at the age of 13 he used to stay behind after school just to pursue his passion not because he wanted to make a lot of money, but because he enjoyed it. He went on to found one of the most successful software companies on the planet. When I read about the engineers who joined Space X which is a rocket ship company founded by Elon musk These are people that live and bread aerospace engineering and were learning and practising it in their spare time for their own pleasure. They were building rocket ships in their high school fairs from age 11. It’s no surprise they went onto work for one of the most innovative space companies in the world. The reality is this. If you don’t have a passion for what you do , how on earth can you keep up with the people that do. You can force yourself to be a doctor and learn about medicine all you like. You’ll never be able to compete with the person who picks up a medical book in their free time and has been studying anatomy from the age of 12 for their own pleasure. I’ve started to learn the piano at best I’d probably become a C player if I try really really hard. how can I compete with the 23 year old girl or boy that’s been playing piano from the age of 5 and the second she or he gets home after a long day day it’s the first thing they do. Play the piano. The real A players do what comes natural to them because it’s what they do all day everyday since they were born. No matter how much you try you will never compete with these people they will always win. Find what comes natural to you and very few people will be able to compete because very few people will put the hours you will put in because very few people will enjoy the game of it like you do. Overall in 2024 I have a mission. Put as many A players in forward thinking organisations as possible. I’m bringing the gap between A players and the corporate world to an end.
