Madeleine King's claim that the Greens' policy on gas development is “uncontested by just about everyone other than the government” is only partially correct, as the government is also not challenging the Greens' stance either. The Greens' primary policy of banning future gas resource development aims to address climate change by reducing emissions, but there is no evidence to support that this will achieve the intended result. Europe's example is instructive: by restricting local gas development, they became reliant on imported Russian gas, and now US shale gas and Middle Eastern gas. Importing gas involves higher emissions due to the energy-intensive transportation process. In New South Wales, the reluctance to develop local gas resources, such as the Narrabri gas project, contrasts sharply with the readiness to import gas from other states and build an Liquefied natural gas [LNG] import terminal. The Greens' fervent opposition to local projects like Narrabri gas project does not extend to import projects like the Port Kembla LNG terminal. This inconsistency raises a fundamental question: what is the rationale behind the Greens' policy of importing they oppose producing locally? Why is this not contested? The NSW Greens David Ritter

BREAKING: The U.S. House of Representatives took much-needed action, passing Energy Workforce-supported legislation, H.R. 7176, the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024. The bill passed with bipartisan support to reverse the American LNG export ban.    Thank you, Congressman Pfluger and all those voting in support of the bill, including democrats who crossed the aisle: Rep. Caraveo, Rep. Cuellar, Rep. Costa, Rep. Golden, Rep. Gonzalez, Rep. Larsen, Rep. Peltola, Rep. Perez, and Rep. Veasey. This sends a strong message that there is bipartisan support to end this misguided “pause”.  We urge the Senate to take up this critical legislation.  

Pennsylvania's two US Senators are the latest Democrats to express concern over Pres. Biden's pause on LNG export approvals. As the second largest natural gas-producing state, this industry has created good-paying energy jobs in towns and communities across the Commonwealth and has played a critical role in promoting U.S. energy independence,” Casey and Fetterman wrote [in a letter to Biden].    “While the immediate impacts on Pennsylvania remain to be seen, we have concerns about the long-term impacts that this pause will have on the thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry. Senate hearing puts the spotlight on Biden Administration’s controversial LNG export pause In the wake of the Biden Administration’s recent decision to impose a pause on pending Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export approvals and the DOE’s process for assessing LNG export applications, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources held a two-part hearing to examine the White House action. The hearing consisted of two panels. The first featured Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk. The second panel heard from Charlie Riedl, the Executive Director at the Center for LNG, an industry group that advocates for public policies advancing the use of LNG, and James Watson, Secretary General of Eurogas, an association representing the European gas wholesale, retail and distribution sectors. Manchin asserts pause is politically motivated, threatens allies, and is unjustified. Committee Chairman Joe Manchin (D-WV) pulled no punches in expressing his disapproval with the Biden Administration’s pause decision. According to the chairman, the White House is playing rank politics with its pause action, and is succumbing to and indulging radical climate activists during this election year. Moreover, Manchin pointed to the administration’s failure to conduct any market assessment or present any facts justifying the imposition of the pause.
