Excellent and outrageous research: You can differ on policy or methods with some groups - I also do sometimes- but criminalizing civic engagement and protest by the hands of shadow right wing networks and the oil industry is a threat to democracy and planetary health.

In AB we have literally just finished the transition away from coal to natural gas in response to federal policy that was a reponose to the 'existential threat of climate change'. However what the federal government has revealed is that the 'existential threat' they fear more than climate change is losing votes so they exempt Atlantic CDN from the carbon tax on heating oil and leave it on natural gas! So really all the made in China "Just Transition" to wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps built with coal & children is an elaborate green PR/marketing program that is not rooted in fact or science related to the physics of energy and for that matter Canada's actual climate i.e. it is frigging cold in Canada in the winter! The "Just Transition" also ignores Canada's 50+ year history of the use of baseload reliable weather independent hydro, CANDU & natural gas that will NOT leave you freezing in the dark on a cold windless night in the winter! However, the most important thing with the "Just Transition" green PR/marketing program is that it is forced upon a nation without really knowing it will actually work reliably and inexpensively! All that said though the incumbent government has just communicated in their unfair application of a 'national' carbon tax is that if you vote Liberal you will be exempted and if you don't your natural gas will have a carbon tax. However, most importantly is the realization that climate change is a global issue requiring approaches that actually reduce emissions throughout the world. Years ago in an interview Vaclav Smil was asked what the impact would be on emissions if the oilsands were shut down completely. To this he responded the emissions reductions realized would be eclipsed by emissions increases generated by China's burning of coal in just 17 days. So what if there was an approach that created 0 emission electricity from natural gas, then any nation blessed with those resources could reduce their emissions and the world would have a better response to climate change, for example Africa has substantial natural gas resources. Well such a new tech does in fact exist-NET Power tech delivers 0 emission electricity from natural gas, but even if Alberta implemented this right away there is no way it could be implemented by 2035! So really the cards are stacked against the use of natural gas, even if the technical approach is available, but then maybe that is real problem with climate change ideology first approaches like that taken by Germany that rejects nuclear energy in favour of a return to coal, with climate change ideology first approaches global emissions will NOT be reduced. If Canada was truly concerned about the reduction of global emissions it would export inexpensive cleaner than coal energy like SK uranium, ON CANDU & AB LNG that both China & India could use, and also encourage Africa to use new tech like NET Power to use its natural gas, just like Alberta does to reduce its emissions.

FUEL FOR THOUGHT:The Monterey Shale (located in California’s midsection) holds almost 2/3rds of the country’s shale oil. Tapping this source, one USC study notes, could bring as many as 500,000 new jobs to the state in a matter of years. But such palatable returns do not mean much to the state’s powerful environmental lobby. California regulations have managed to cut production by more than half in less than 30 years. “In the Golden State, this ban threatens to eliminate an industry that, according to a 2019 report from the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, amounted to 152,000 direct jobs, as well as an additional 213,000 related jobs. Nearly half those jobs comprise black, Asian, or Latino workers. California reflects the kind of mindset that has captured the Biden administration. Just two years ago the bond firm Pimco predicted that America was about to seize “energy dominance”. But White House officials are so soaked in green ideology that they have abandoned the basic logic of geopolitics, according to which energy is power.” The other possibility is that they intend the likely and foreseeable consequences of their actions.

Data suggests we may have passed 1.5 degrees warming, and the setback of a second Trump administration would be catastrophic. We must accelerate progress in cutting emissions NOW, and a second Trump administration will accelerate climate catastrophe instead.

Clover is calling out Fossil Fuel companies and how complicit the media is in supporting oil and the profits, but painting activists as the terrorists. Which in my opinion is the reverse! Heavy oil and gas lobbyists are a huge part of the issue! I was shocked to hear that TED pulled Clover's talk from being published online. It really shows who is in charge! This is such a huge issue in any moving forward. I think the wealthy heads of Oil and Gas companies will arrogantly and stupidly drive us straight down the road to hell if we can't call this absolute BS and stop new projects. There is plenty available in current projects to make our transition away from fossil fuels. These ludicrous mega projects are a deal with the devil!
