An advantage of working at a smaller company: You get to learn things you typically wouldn't do. I wanted to share this clip for a couple reasons. 1. DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY SOMETHING NEW! I remember when by boss asked me if I wanted to learn to draw blood, I really wanted to but I was extremely nervous. I don't like getting poked myself, let alone poking someone else. Low and behold, he told me "I have good veins, try it on me." He wasn't scared and had trust in me that I could do it. And I did (however as you can hear in the video I had a trained phlebotomy instructor to help guide me 😅 ). Clearly I had no prior experience with phlebotomy, and there were a few mistakes. But I got my first time ever drawing blood on video and can look back to see how much better and more confident I have become. 2. RESEARCH IS EXCITING! Not in a million years would I think I could draw blood. Never. Along with that though I've gotten to learn many new things (clinic side and tech side), I've gotten to see how great patients have reacted to investigational products and to see new methods and ideas of how to help out our communities. https://lnkd.in/gjx3ybp3

I wouldn't be where I am today without daily reflection in my life! Reminding myself that feelings aren't facts can be challenging, especially when those feelings feel undeniably true. I know that it's crucial to maintain perspective, to sometimes curb my enthusiasm, particularly as engagement levels rise and people are taking notice. I know that feelings aren't facts, but how I feel when I see the nursing profession embrace technology and the novel idea of using CDS tools to support nurses at triage in the emergency department, I try to keep myself grounded (because it really makes me feel full of glee). As you know by now, I have strong feelings about this work that I do. I remind myself of this fundamental truth: feelings aren't facts. It's a mantra that helps me navigate through the complexity of emotions and what can seem like an unusually long sales cycle. It helps to ensure that I maintain a more reasoned approach when interacting with potential clients. Feelings aren't facts, but I know that we are on to something, and I can't wait to watch it unfold. What a privilege to work with the team at Beckman Coulter Diagnostics.

Why are you passionate about what you do? Lived experience? Past rejection? Money? Don’t know? How about isolation? No? Let me explain… If you know me or have seen my profile, you’ll know that I’ve weaved through a variety of pharmacy careers, with my current being the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer’s Clinical Fellowship Scheme. I applied for the fellowship because I was uncertain if prison pharmacy was my true passion or whether I wanted to add more experiences to my portfolio career post fellowship. However, being the first health and justice (HJ) professional on the scheme, I didn’t have a previous fellow I could relate to, and have often felt that my peers may not truly understand the isolation I have felt. I’ve heard various versions of “working in a niche setting means it is very specialised”. But I’m not one to complain, I adapt. It was during this very journey, where I realised that I no longer wanted to navigate my way through the pharmacy profession trying to find like-minded people. This was my opportunity to create a platform and share my knowledge and learning with others so they too do not feel isolated. Early into the fellowship, a senior leader in CQC once told me, “it doesn’t matter what your why is, just be true to it”. If it’s money, then own it.  If it’s a past rejection, learn from it.  And if it’s isolation, connect with it.
