Lest We Forget!!!
We are proud of you! See unit history website: http://489th-bomb-group-museum.org/489th-group-history/ The 489th Bomb Group flew B-24 Liberators out of Halesworth, Suffolk, for several months from May 1944 until later in the year. The Group flew tactical missions in support of ground forces in northern France. It was in this tactical role that the crews carried out saturation bombing before the final Allied breakthrough at St. Lo in July 1944 and dropped food and ammunition into France and Holland. The losses these guys took eradicating the Nazi scum from Europe were unbelievable. Imagine sending your college age kids to fight and die in a foreign country.
If this fellow is 95 in 2021, he was born in 1926 which would have made him 13 when war broke out...........
Thank you for your service and sacrifice Larry. All generations should be taught what you and your brave comrades did to provide us with the freedom we so readily take for granted. We must learn from the great feeling of friendship, teamwork and togetherness shown by the likes of Larry and his fellow combatants and try to apply the same in our everyday lives, only then can we begin to try and make the world a more tolerate, safer and more harmonious place for all.
WWII was a time when "all" pitched in what they could. My dad was almost blind, therefore did not qualify for Military duty. Supply vessels were regularly getting blown up by U Boats. Because of the danger, finding ship board help was difficult. My dad, a Canadian, joined the Danish merchant navy. WWII was a time when "ALL" pitched in what they could.
Sure, Larry. I also have a request of you and everyone else who may read this comment: Please take a moment to think of all of the multitudes of Veterans of WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the unnamed or “unofficial” conflicts, whether living or not, who also served. Thank you for your Service. My father was also a WWII Vet. He rarely talked about his Service as a Naval Airman on an escort carrier but what little he said made a strong impression.
God bless you, sir. Our nation's gratitude must never fade for the selfless, honorable, courageous, limitless iconic sacrifices from you & your band of brothers of the U.S. Armed Forces! Saving our country, the free world from assured Hell on earth if, Nazi-Germany/Japan & their Allies were successful!
There's a reason they are called the greatest generation. I'm thankful to every single one of them. This man deserves our respect and appreciation. We just lost my father 7 weeks ago at age 95. He was a tail gunner on B29's stationed on Tinian Island in the South Pacific in 1945. My gratitude to him and all of the soldiers he fought with to end tyranny. He is on the bottom row, second from the right.

2yI see this ever year and it kind of disgusting how it's always being used on LinkedIn for likes. Second if you really knew a veteran, they don't like being thanked for their service.
