The whole life 1 to life 2 transition has been a fascinating one for me. Aiming for your dream life, no compromises, is what we all shoot for right ? As an idealist that was always my goal. The reality is the journey can be bumpy. For me as a Founder / Entrepreneur, in my passion “people” the transition involved a crisis of purpose. As I exited and became irrelevant to the companies I had established, there was a misconception of “he’s ok he’s made a lot of money etc”. The mental aspects I was left to fend for myself. It was a gift to slowly get beyond all this, recover and get to the now through my own grit. It involved a lot of extricating myself from the matrix of extenuating life 1 investments, relationships and commitments that for life 2 made no sense. It was humbling and a total reboot. Today life 2 is increasingly simple. I am careful to what I say yes to. I associate with more people who understand. Which is why if you have left the life 1, and are into or coming into the life 2, we have something in common. I am enjoying opening up my homes in the north and south of NZ as a sort of “refuge” to my global friends and alumni at the “life 2” inflexion point (or heading towards it). I have been spending deep quality time with these folks and enjoying being able to not only use my experience, but share my homes / life. A large part of what we have been working together on is re-tooling habits, getting healthy, simplifying investments and defining purpose for life 2. I wished I had done more of this earlier, but the reality is learning the hard way (like the typical Founder!) has made it more meaningful. And that’s been the making of MC2! If this resonates, and you need help, get in touch. It will be a privilege to positively use my challenging experience or hold space, for those going through or coming into a similar situation. Matt ❤️

Thank you for sharing Matthew Chapman! This comes across as a deeper transition and a meaning full pivot in both personal and professional life. Navigating all of this can be hard and complex at times. People need contrast to learn and hatch themselfves every once and a while. More recently we published our view on facing these “forks in the road”, you might like it🙏 https://www.kennedyfitch.com/career-guide2024/

Hey Matt. I am on life 2 too! Katherine had bone marrow failure aged 5, and needed a stem cell transplant which ultimately came from her twin sister. We were extremely lucky in that recovered fully but it also caused me to reassess. I’m very clear that what I enjoy is helping other moms be successful, across different contexts, so I doubled down on my baby gear rental business and bought 2 Gymboree play and music franchises. Not there yet, but a gentler, kinder me has emerged and I am moving towards the place I am supposed to be next… Excited for your journey too. I will bring the girls to see you when time and money allows. They will love Parihoa and they will love you xxx

"Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify". Wise words imho said by Henry David Thoreau over 150 years ago. Life 1 has its moments for sure - being in the rat race isn't one of them imho. Now life 2! This is interesting - and if I can suggest, at least for me, has allowed an opportunity to simplify and be more in the present. I'm enjoying reading (and learning) about your journey Matthew Chapman. Thank you.

Matthew Chapman amazing to hear more about the latest developments in your journey. As always. Your approach to life and business always reasonated with me. Parihao was a phenomenal experience and our time there was pivotal in giving me the confidence to not only take the leap into entrepreneurship, but to also create a business and life on my terms, in a sustainable and fulfilling way. Hope to make it over soon to Wanaka and we can climb Roy’s Peak again!

I love this so much. I recently had a crisis of purpose myself and am now (mostly) through it. It is not a journey for the faint hearted or one best travelled without good guides or people at your side. Best of luck from a very kindred spirit.

I so look forward for LAC2 to reconnect with MC2. So much terrain has been traversed; so much needed to be seen, so much needed to be let go….So much to yet be embraced and held…..

It very much sounds familiar territory. You had a strong support group to help you. And your sharing the experience, the emotions, the thoughts, the new actions.. is helpful.. At least to me.
