Growing up, I had a scarcity mindset... My Mum used to tell me, "You are going to need to save a lot of money for retirement because you will cease work and might live for many years even after you have stopped." My mum was quite right. She stopped formal work at age 55. She is now 74yrs old, still healthy and going strong. 🔥 By the time I reach my retirement years, with medical advancement, it might be even longer. So I was told to save and plan wisely, no matter what income level I was at. "It was not how much I earned but how I spent." Another mantra my Mum shares... Despite doing better financially over time, I still live like how I did when I was a young engineer starting out. Maybe with a little bit more perks but it was occasional and not all the time. And that has brought peace of mind, financial freedom early on in life. And I am shifting my mindset to one of abundance. It cannot change overnight just like that, but it has evolved TREMENDOUSLY since I met my wife, Joy Koh . She has taught me to be generous and live the moments, which I do indulge in occasionally. But what is more important is how we think has an immediate impact on how we lead our lives. So it is not about scarcity or abundance mindset but one of who is my "True Provider"? It is not I, but God. I kept tearing non-stop! I am a man who hardly tears, even less so when it comes to crying. ♥️But this camp has been such an emotional one for me, reflecting scenes of my past when growing up all the way back to when I was in Primary school. This happened when I heard Nicholas Lye sharing his own authentic story and that triggered an overwhelming sense of emotions, triggering thoughts and explanations of why I am who I am today! Maybe it was just me trying to suppress the feelings of inadequacies, but it was truly a period of healing throughout. 🙏 And this all could be done, because I have more peace of mind, waiting to be repaired as a person, as a son, as a spouse and as a father. 💥When we have more peace of mind in our lives, with regards to our personal lives, our finances, our investments, we are able to be bring out the best in ourselves for the benefit of others. In the past, I used to go for camps and holidays, still checking my investments, my portfolio, my finances on an ongoing basis. 🎯But in recent years, I was able to let go of all that, because I already had a SOLID investment philosophy that would have worked out, if the markets tanked! And it would have worked out, if the markets sped its way up. Because we have reframed our way towards what success means, both personally and financially and professionally. We focus on the things we can control and let go of those that we can't. ♥️So live your best life forward and reframe the way you want success to be by asking what is it about the value of wealth that is most important to you! If you had told me a few years back that I'd be living this life, I'd probably have laughed. Hard. I was the queen of hitting up Target for stuff I didn't need and living for the weekend. But here's the kicker: I was stuck in a loop, feeling like I was meant for something more but scared to make a move. Sound familiar? Then, one day, it hit me. Like, really hit me. Step 3: Choose a Theme Next, we make people choose a theme for Q1. What is the mantra, the battle cry or the banner that flys over you in this season of life? Sometimes it’s going to be “take the hill,” and other times it’s going to be “restore.” Both are great, but it’s important to know what season of life holds. Step 4: Setting 1 Priority Goal So often people don’t achieve their goals because they are chasing too many of them. We challenge our community to chase 1 priority goal and 2 supporting goals if they are aligned. Focus is then name of the game. Step 5: Clear Commitments Your commitments are the inputs that create your desired outputs. It’s how your plans move to action and execution. It’s what you are committing to do, not what you hope to do. Step 5: Systems and Frameworks As I said earlier, systems and frameworks are important. We utilize Notion to build out a daily scorecard and we have a weekly check-in. Step 6: Community This is crucial. Community is the lifeblood of achievement. We have a saying in 90 Days of Action that, “no one falls behind and no one fails alone.” We are in it together. Step 7: Encouragement In my mind, this is the secret sauce. So often we fall off the wagon because we are discouraged after failure. A little bit of encouragement from a friend can make all the difference. That’s it! That’s the whole thing. I remember finding out I was pregnant with Ethan, about 5 years ago, and thinking - is this the life I want to bring a child into? I wasn’t fulfilled, I was full of anxiety, living paycheque to paycheque while already being in debt, dreading Mondays and counting down to Fridays. I knew that there was more to life for me.
