Understanding the psychology behind seatbelt usage is crucial and must be addressed. It's high time we develop more effective strategies to encourage everyone to use seatbelts and end the reckless behaviour of those who refuse to buckle up. The statistics from Victoria show 374 seatbelt offences from 12:01 am on 15 December 2023 to 11:59 pm on 1 January 2024, which are alarming and cannot be taken lightly. We must act now, bringing this critical issue to the front of the community, just like this highly influential "Click Clack 'Front and Back'" commercial from 1984. However, we also need to explore other innovative ways to drive home the importance of seatbelt usage and ensure that everyone on the road is safe. It is important to note that in Australia, the use of seat belts became mandatory for all vehicle passengers in Victoria and South Australia in 1970 and 1971, respectively, after introducing compulsory front onboard mounting points in 1964. Furthermore, in 1973, the use of fitted seat belts by vehicle occupants was made mandatory for the rest of the country.
