What is your leadership superpower? Maybe you’ve never thought about it before. Reflecting on it could change your career. Maybe even your life… Sitting now on a 6-hour flight back to Spain from Cyprus after being Chairman of the ICPAC summit, that question is the one that sticks in my mind. It had the most impact on the 240 finance leaders at the event. We had heard from industry leaders, a famous actor and even the footballer who scored the winning goal in the 2004 European championship. But it was the speaker who asked this question that had everyone thinking. "What is your leadership superpower?" The people who could answer the question easily and used it every day had a sparkle in their eyes. Those who could not name their power (or rarely used it) did not. You see, whether your super power is analysing, listening, mentoring, creating, team building, public speaking, making people laugh.. It doesn’t matter! If you never use it, you can still become successful. But you’ll never thrive. So ask yourself: What is your leadership superpower? And do you use it? I learned a lot during this event, from all panels including the one I joined. It was interesting to see how our experiences and advice were similar, across industries and business size. A few common take away's included: * Plan in advance and build your business with an exit in mind - things to think about include - one that doesn't rely on YOU totally, create structure in your finances and records (it makes it much easier later on), build a strong team so you have depth and succession, build a revenue model that is attractive. * Get support externally - mentors, advisors and for us a game changer was appointing a Chair / board. It has to be the right person or people ( thank you Conor Walsh!!!) * Get support internally - bring in ops and administration to free you up to lead and grow the business * Delegate - to develop your leaders and build succession, and also to free your time congratulations to Saffron Business Forum for another great event.
