Travis Howze asked the question “why is it okay to call for help on-duty but it’s not okay to call for help off-duty?” That has been weighing heavily on my mind ALL weekend. Reaching out and asking for help saves lives and shouldn’t be made out to be a shameful act or a weakness. I can tell you, and I’ll just speak for myself as a police wife, I fear for my husband’s safety 24/7; both on-duty and off-duty. 🌟💚 May is National Mental Health Awareness Month 💚🌟 This month, let's take a moment to acknowledge the importance of mental health in our lives. It’s a time to remember that our mental well-being is intrinsically linked to our physical health; mental illness is something that’s affected me personally since I was a teenager (ask me about my story and I’m happy to share!) and something that I’ll continue working on for myself and in support of others for the rest of my life. 💚 Here are a few things we can all do to foster mental health: 1. **Talk About It** - BREAK THE STIGMA. Conversations can make a big difference. 2. **Listen** - Sometimes, the best way to support someone is just to listen. 3. **Learn** - Educate ourselves about mental health to better understand each other. 4. **Reach Out** - Check in on friends, family, and even ourselves. Here are a variety of resources that can provide support and information for mental health if you or someone you know is in need of assistance: 1. **National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)**: Offers support and education for both individuals and families dealing with mental health issues. When a child lives with a serious illness, parents and siblings are also affected. They have described ways everyday life and family relationships are affected, such as not being able to spend a lot of time together or not wanting to worry each other with their own concerns. But, siblings and parents have also taught us that they would like to support one another, show their love, and get some guidance from their healthcare professionals. This study is specifically interested in understanding what contributes to sibling well-being when a child in the family has a serious illness and what siblings and parents believe would be helpful in supporting sibling well-being and family relationships. https://lnkd.in/enhnVArq
