Nursing homes are people’s homes. There is a need to position residents at the center of their own lives and care – directing what matters to them in terms of their goals, preferences and priorities (or GPPs). Many nursing homes have been working to improve the way they understand a resident’s GPPs. Yet, how they are collected, documented, and implemented can vary by each nursing home.    EXAMPLES OF GPPs?: ·        What time someone likes to wake up in the morning ·        What they prefer to eat ...and when ·        What schedule they want to keep each day or week ·        Who they prefer to attend their care planning meetings   A NEW WAY: We believe GPPs should shape care. We also know the benefits of standardizing how GPPs are gathered, documented, and implemented. National skilled nursing week is a great reminder for everyone who works in the industry, that we are all advocates for the industry. With the largest age wave approaching in the next 50 years, it is important that as many people who work in nursing homes recruit new talent to the industry, promote the amazing work that employees do everyday, dispel dated and ageist stereotypes, and work to lobby for less suffocating regulations and legislation, and better reimbursement. Nursing homes care for the same acutely ill patients that hospitals do, but for a fraction of the reimbursement that hospitals receive. Nursing homes are the best value in healthcare today, but dangerously underfunded…and with demand dramatically increasing for years to come. A “double whammy.” Our legacy is important, and every voice matters. Whether it’s on a local or larger platform…we all have the opportunity to advocate! I feel so proud and fortunate to work in this industry alongside individuals who provide such compassionate and competent care to the aging individuals within the communities they operate in. #nursinghomes #healthcare #nursesonlinkedin Honor Aging

While she is most famous for her role in the Crimean War, her efforts significantly impacted aged care. Nightingale's emphasis on sanitation, patient care, and the use of statistics to improve health outcomes laid the foundation for modern nursing practices, including those in aged care. 🏥 The First Aged Care Homes in Australia: The history of formal aged care in Australia dates back to the early 19th century. One of the earliest recorded aged care homes was established in Hobart, Tasmania, in 1834. These initial homes set the precedent for the development of more structured aged care services across the country. 📚 The Introduction of Specialised Aged Care Training: The late 20th century saw a significant shift with the introduction of specialised training and education for aged care. On today’s International Nurses Day, let’s take a moment to acknowledge the backbone of elder care! 🩺 In Austria alone, over 460,000 seniors rely on professional nursing services—a figure expected to rise to more than 650,000 by 2050. Despite this growing demand, there's already a shortage of skilled workers in the sector. This urgency drives us at 120 Ventures to explore innovative solutions that will bridge the gap and meet this pressing need for effective, sustainable, and accessible elder care! Interestingly, elder care in Austria is predominantly female, both among caregivers and those receiving care. More than 70% of seniors in residential and nursing services are women, and this pattern holds true across other care services as well. On the caregiving front, women account for more than three-quarters of professional nursing staff and two-thirds of all family caregivers nationwide. With this in mind, a heartfelt thank you to everyone, especially all the women, who keep our care systems together!
