We were thrilled to host the President and CEO of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Charles Ingoglia at Thresholds Center for Mental Wellbeing Ravenswood yesterday. Our wonderful staff facilitated tours of the therapy and group spaces, the Living Room: Forever Hope, our integrated healthcare partners Tapestry 360 Health and Genoa Healthcare pharmacy, and crisis response program - all in this one location. Thresholds is proud to now have four open and operating Centers for Mental Wellbeing - in Ravenswood, McHenry County, Chicago's South Side, and Kankakee - and it's because of support and partnerships like these that make that possible.

Care Coordination is such an important component of CCBHCs!
National Council for Mental Wellbeing has published the CCBHC Care Coordination Toolkit developed in partnership with our very own Laura Line, Melissa Bailey, and KC Wu, MPH. This toolkit supports CCBHCs in planning, designing, and implementing care coordination. It highlights practical guidance, strategies for meeting CCBHC requirements, resources, and tools that CCBHCs can use to coordinate care within their organizations and in their local communities. So today was the final leg on our whistle stop roadshow to five of our regional offices (Winchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Brighton & London) to engage with as many of the Mace MOJ team as possible face-to-face as part of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. My reflections are as follows: 1. Well-being conversations should not just be reserved for MHA Week. In our post COVID culture, where remote working is here to stay, it is even more important we prioritise these amongst our busy delivery schedules. 2. I was taken aback by the openness and honesty we received on what is very personal and sensitive subject. The vulnerability shown is not a weakness and the confidence of the ‘few’ led to a snowball effect on the ‘many’. 3. I’ve learned more about my team in the past 5 days than I have in the past 5 months. I travel to regional offices regularly but having such a large concentration in the same place at the same time is invaluable. 4. The impact of social media on mental health is far greater than I appreciated, with the constant comparison of ones self with others supposedly perfect lives. I am mindful how I prepare my children for the inescapable world of social media. Huge thanks to Matthew Hetherington AIEMA Grad IOSH for organising a fantastic initiative.

Aligned to Mental Health Awareness Week (but an important issue all the time), Alice Green of client Arcadis discusses why we need to invest in places of safety in EG and talks about the firm's latest Halcyon safe space concept. "As well as providing a safe, secure and dignified patient experience, we should aim to develop spaces to provide sanctuary, fostering psychological comfort. "This can be achieved by using evidence-based design concepts surrounding the senses, proxemics and neurodiversity; biophilic visual interest; organic-influenced materials palette for a tactile experience; forest sounds and smells; circadian rhythm lighting and patient choice. "For the additional upfront capital costs of building in beautiful spaces, could we see greater value in patient wellbeing and self-regulation affecting length of stay and overall recovery? This environment may enable staff to deliver better patient-centric care from the outset." Thanks to Tim Burke. Full piece below. Shineade Andric | Lauren Hurley

Compassionate Guide & Disabled Voice: Grief Coach | Death Midwife | Harm Reductionist | Community Health Worker | Peer Supporter | Adaptive & Accessible Yoga Teacher
May is another month of 'awareness', but for many of us who are living with mental health challenges, it can feel like a double-edged sword. As we raise awareness, let's ensure we're also protecting rights and advocating for supportive, inclusive, non-carceral solutions. It is imperative that we (folks with living/lived experience) not only have a seat at the table but also take the lead in driving the conversations, ensuring that our voices are heard loud and clear. Throughout this month, I'll be spotlighting various organizations and resources that are truly making a difference. Peer-led initiatives, built by and for us, are vital in this journey. Join me in celebrating those who are paving the way for a more understanding and compassionate world. Resource I want to highlight today is Self-Injury Recovery & Awareness. Self-Injury Recovery & Awareness or “SIRA” for short, focuses on filling the massive gap of care for the self-injury community by teaching them how to heal from the inside-out, through a peer-to-peer support group model.

This is such a brilliant work Leanne W. summing up the 12 core culture of care standards with a fitting illustration. It goes beyond just an illustration but a powerful sum up of every bits that needs to come together. The mental health inpatient setting itself stands out as the beautiful house that turns into a home purely as a result of great practises that sits in it, lived experience is the voice gatekeeping and ushering in the much needed SAFETY Into this home - with safety enabling the so much needed space to grow trusting RELATIONSHIPS and yes relationships are one of the most singular essential blocks for recovery while STAFF SUPPORT cements it, wedging every relationship blocks together on all sides, respecting differences and at the same time acknowledging uniqueness (EQUALITY). I could keep going, it’s well fused together in my head and inter - connected. I could say it tells a story and charts the path that leads to where we need to be - this is where we are strong with promises of hope for many even if it feels like they had once lost it. Culture of Care programme seeks to bring this to life.
Earlier this year, I worked with NHS England to draw an illustration which summarised the new NHS Culture of Care Standards for mental health inpatient services. Here is the final piece 😃. It evolved as we worked together and aims to be one way of sharing about this important work. Having read the standards inside out, it feels such a powerful piece of truly co-produced work. There's 12 core standards which include valuing lived experience at all levels of the organisation 💪. Being in a NHS lived experience role myself I'm happy about this and look forward to seeing the impact unfold. We believe that needs assessment is the foundation of an effective and community-responsive CCBHC. That's why BBS was honored to partner with the National Council for Mental Wellbeing to create the CCBHC Community Needs Assessment Toolkit, highlighting practical frameworks, resources, and tools that organizations can use to plan and execute a high-quality needs assessment in their local communities. In addition to guiding organizations through the assessment process, it includes supplemental tools like a list of publicly available datasets, a tool to compare local data to national trends, interview guides and thematic organizers for qualitative research, among others. Find the toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/ejDpkA-T There's also a webinar on 1/30 that to learn how to access and utilize it! Register here: https://lnkd.in/ePv-Ksi2 BBS can also provide hands-on support to organizations (e.g., current/prospective CCBHCs, state associations, states) to design and implement needs assessments. The full promise of CCBHCs to transform community behavioral healthcare delivery hinges on this important, but often under-resourced process.

This month’s employee spotlight is Stephanie Motta, BS, LADC, CADC; Primary Therapist at Foundations Group Recovery Centers. “As a primary therapist at Foundations, I am grateful for the unique role I have in our patients’ journey to achieve their recovery goals. The courageous men and women who we serve arrive at Foundations with varying degrees of vulnerability at admission and it is my privilege to help them learn to navigate their individual barriers to recovery, identify and address symptoms of co-occurring disorders, introduce and implement vital coping skills to help them build a healthy, balance life. Using evidence-based practices through individual and group work, I help to shed light on the impact of unresolved emotional triggers, the role of continue contact with using friends, and how unaddressed chronic emotional and physical pain has on the ability to develop sustainable healthy habits and obtain long-term recovery. Proven treatment strategies are a crucial part of a person’s overall healing process. I facilitate a patient’s process to their next stage of change with empathy, compassion, and shared determination. We focus on trifold healing of the mind, body and spirit through patient-focused care and reflection of issues to help usher positive change. I also communicate with families to educate on the recovery process and the best ways they can support their loved ones. I share my patient’s joys + sorrows, successes + challenges and am incredibly proud of each step forward. Lastly, it would be near impossible to do any of it without Mike Clancy’s vision and leadership, the support, collaboration and encouragement of my Foundations colleagues and a pleasant work environment. What an honor to love what you do and have a great place to do it every day!!” Thank you, Stephanie, for everything you do for our clients and community! https://lnkd.in/eabRGAyc www.foundationsohio.com 📞 508.326.6006 #RecoveryMonth #RecoveryMonth2023 #Recovery #RecoverySupport #RecoveryistheExpectation #RecoveryIsPossible #RecoveryIsReal #RecoveryEquity #Recovery4ALL #LivedExperience #foundations #fgrecoverycenters #treatment #substanceusedisorder #recovery #stopthestigma #capecod #falmouth #mashpee #sandwich #massachusetts #foundationsgroup #wedorecover

Healthcare Case Study: The Beacon 🔍 The Beacon offers a safe, welcoming and positive environment for individuals who need mental health inpatient care, supporting them and their families on the journey to recovery. One requirement for this project was for the reduced ligature solutions to be dual colour so that there would be a different colour externally & internally.
