📚 💼 We bring the world of work closer to the students of University of Greenwich👇 Last week, students from the University of Greenwich, in the United Kingdom, took part in an interesting and highly educational talk with some of our colleagues from GRUPO PACADAR.   The purpose of this session was for students could learn about what we do at Pacadar and potential professional opportunities. In fact, for the last three years, Pacadar has implemented an placement program with the University of Greenwich which has allowed for students with a variety of specialization background to complete a 1-year placement at our facilities in the United Kingdom.   From Pacadar, the talk was led by Jorge Sánchez Zapatero, Head of International Projects & Deputy COO, and Antonio Diez Barral, UK Project Manager, together with María José García and GEMA DE LA GUIA de la Guía from the Human Resources team, who have promoted this initiative.   During the talk, the students were given an overview of the beginnings of Pacadar, which date back 80 years, its international expansion, and the projects currently underway in the United Kingdom. In addition, the benefits of programs like this for Pacadar were highlighted, emphasizing how the diversity of profiles, mindsets, cultures, and perspectives help to have a much broader vision and come up with more creative solutions.   The question-and-answer session confirmed what was said earlier about diversity and different points of view: students asked interesting questions ranging from purely technical matters, company strategies, environmental concerns to professional development. About this point, Gema de la Guía explained the possibilities for professional development within Pacadar, as well as the opportunity provided by the placement program, with which 100% of participating students so far have subsequently become part of Pacadar's staff. She also talked about the fascinating challenge that Pacadar currently faces in creating teams for potential international projects.   But all the questions had one thing in common; the great understanding that everyone showed about Pacadar and their incredible enthusiasm for everything they were learning.   👏 We would like to thank the University of Greenwich and Twin Group for organizing these kinds of initiatives that bring the professional world closer to the academic world. #Education, #collaboration, #Pacadar, #PacadarUK #80years #precastingideas

Orientation Week Digital Attendance Register revolutionizes eco-friendly innovation at VUT In a pioneering move towards eco-friendly innovation, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) took a significant step during the 2024 First Year Orientation Week (O-Week) by piloting the Digital Attendance Register. This groundbreaking initiative, aligned with the overarching theme of embracing sustainability, aimed to streamline administrative processes while reducing paper waste. The results were not only promising but transformative, ushering in a new era of efficiency and engagement for both students and staff. According to Amogelang Molopo, the VUT Facilitator for E-Skills (digital skills), the primary motivation behind piloting the Digital Attendance Register during O-Week was VUT’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. “Fueled by the theme of eco-friendliness, the initiative sought innovative ways to diminish paper usage, leading to the exploration of a paperless attendance recording system,” he said. Another year of engaging talks at #BoilingFrogs IT conference, and I'm thrilled to see the shift towards not just the "how" but the "what" in software development. As we innovate with better, more sophisticated tools, the significance of understanding the product grows, becoming integral for every engineer.   During my stage time I tried to share engineer's perspective about the often overlooked "soft" aspect: cultural intelligence. It's a two-fold path—comprehending other cultures and introspecting on our own. This latter part tends to be ignored, yet I believe that it is crucial part of building emotional intelligence and ability to navigate global market.   Global mindset is about respect, understanding and growth. Believe it or not, it is also crucial for your business. Diverse opinions lead to well-thought out products and better market fits.   I had the opportunity to first dive into this through a fantastic course led by Bartosz Ziolek, MBA, which laid the groundwork for understanding cultural dimensions. I am grateful to Joerg HRUBY for further enriching this knowledge with his insights in GMINDSET Center for Global Education.   Cultural intelligence requires constant learning. The 1% Pleasure of Being a Pracademic ☀️🏞️ In the fast-paced world of work collaboration between #academic and #practice is not just valuable—it's essential! My co-author and brother in science, Joshua Haist and I have been navigating this exciting #pracadamic journey together, and today I share 3 key tips on effective collaboration, drawing on our recent experience while preparing for a #conference in New Zealand. (See the picture for a glimpse of our session!) **Manage Your Time Wisely** For a practitioner, academic research is like a hobby that demands serious commitment. Balancing it with your job, family, and social life is challenging. There will be moments of joy, but often it's a late-night endeavor, cold and exhausting. My advice? Make yourself a cup of tea, and keep pushing through. It's tough but incredibly rewarding once you see you can make a tiny difference. 🫖 **Meet in Person and Celebrate Milestones** While most of our collaboration happens over voice messages, virtual calls, and shared drives, there's an indescribable joy in the 1% of the time we get to meet in person. Just like in the attached picture, celebrating these milestones together uplift your project and strengthen your partnership. 🍾 **Embrace Team Spirit** Once you decide you want to get involved in academia, you soon become part of a research team. Knowing that you can ask for help when you're stuck is invaluable.
