🤖The often-overlooked factor that influences the cost of AI development. Infrastructure cost. Here's the deal: An AI model relies on processing large datasets, which requires substantial computational resources. To put it into perspective, a single action can demand between 20 and 100 times more resources than a simple data query. Now, let's talk money. Meta’s AI model, Galactica, used 128 NVIDIA A100 80GB nodes. For context, a single A100 can set you back $15,000. And that’s only part of a system that includes high-performance CPUs, RAMs, and networks. Even if you don’t have Galactica-sized ambitions, it all adds up. So, here's the bottom line: Infrastructure costs will definitely increase project expenses in the long run. If you're considering using AI development for your business and want to make a smart, cost-effective investment, get in touch with me or my team at NERDZ LAB. #ai #aidevelopment #softwaredevelopment #entrepreneurship #business #technology #innovation #startups #techstartups #artificialintelligence

Etched is Building a Specialized AI Chip Generative AI's expansion has boosted demand for specialized chips, with Nvidia dominating the market. Etched, a startup founded by Harvard dropouts, aims to challenge this dominance with its Sohu chip, designed specifically for running Transformer models. Sohu claims to offer better performance and energy efficiency than general-purpose GPUs. Etched has raised $120 million in a Series A funding round, with significant investor interest. Despite competition from other AI chip startups, Etched's focus on Transformers and early customer reservations position it as a strong contender in the AI chip industry. President at SBT | 18 years of advising leaders in the semiconductor industry and architecting teams from startups to F500 companies
In our industry, few moments are as exhilarating as tapeout, however, being recognized as a top semiconductor startup comes pretty close. For the team at Blumind, July 2024 will be one for their record books because they accomplished both! I had the pleasure of meeting co-founder and COO Niraj Mathur at Blumind’s headquarters in the ventureLAB building in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, on the same day as their latest chip tapeout. Niraj was enthusiastic about sharing their story and graciously sat with me to discuss Blumind’s progress, their current chip, and his insights into the ongoing evolution of AI. According to Niraj, AI and machine learning are the most potent driving forces behind the current technology revolution and will fuel unprecedented innovation. This wave has attracted many newcomers to the space, yet as the ecosystem of hardware companies expands, Blumind stands apart with a unique approach. He and co-founder John Gosson view the human brain as the “ultimate machine” for handling the complexity of modern AI/ML workloads and in their view, the challenges associated with data transport are "signal processing problems to solve." This led Niraj and John to focus on analog architectures and modelling their chips after the brain's neural networking capabilities. Niraj is captivating to listen to, and I was fully engrossed as he described Blumind’s thesis. Their end goal is to make high-compute, low-power neural accelerators widespread to enable AI in billions of devices worldwide so people can harness its potential and unlock their own. With a mission this significant, it’s no wonder Blumind was recognized by the EE Times | Electronic Engineering Times as one of the “Startups Worth Watching in 2024”. They nailed it with that call, and I will certainly be watching and cheering for Niraj and his team. I encourage anyone interested in AI to watch the clip below to hear Niraj share his insights about analog compute. And if you want to congratulate Blumind for making the Silicon 100, give them kudos for their accomplishment in the comments section! #semiconductorindustry #artificalintelligence #startups

“We need to accelerate the development of AI as fast as possible, and the reason for that is because safety requires technology.” - Jensen Huang Buckle up and enjoy the AI ride people. 🚀 “What Huang rejects is the idea of a ‘universal, galactic, planetary’ governance system for all things AI. No one, he says, could possibly have so much knowledge about generative AI technologies to do that effectively.” That sound you’re hearing now is the collective gasp of Brussels, and a loud Gallic humph from Thierry Breton. 😤 https://lnkd.in/esSP7-g4 #tech #technology #innovation #startups #entrepreneurs #entrepreneurship #deeptech #ai #artificialintelligence #nvidia #vc #venturecapital
