Autonomy at work is what we all secretly desire. We often don't express it because we don't want to be seen as lazy or focused on the wrong goal. But location freedom is a huge perk. Now work from anywhere is expected. Being forced to work from an office every day is seen as out of touch. And employers who insist are losing their workforce to smarter employers. The daily commute is a grind and a big waste of time. Forcing people to the office should be outlawed. It's cruel and inhumane. We're not caged animals. Why does it matter where you work from? Autonomy isn’t only gained exclusively from working from home. It has nothing to do with where you work.

I cannot agree more. We are forced to go into work Tue - Thu - the reason given is that we need to share our knowledge to upskill junior staff. I resigned and took a position for the same money, working from home, which means loads of savings on petrol, carbon emmission, stressful drives, and wasting time. The result - a more balanced individual and due to no time in traffic my employer will benefit wiht at least 2 additioal hours work per day
On my point of view nothing is black or white autonomy is one very important key even if you work at the office or not. If you are in a team it is also important to gather in a same place where you can have face to face contacts and share in real, getting not only the speaking feedbacks but also body language. This makes us feel we are making part of this team. Our digital ways of virtual communication are litle by litle decreasing the feeling of need to social contacts. All is about finding the good balance.
I completely agree! The ability to have flexibility and work from home is one of the greatest benefits that a company can offer. I imagine companies that are fully back in office are having more difficulty attracting and keeping great employees. Now that remote work has become the norm, it is archaic to force everyone back into the office. I think it would be wonderful if each employee got to choose the style that works best for them and that the in office or at home situation could be flexible depending on the week. As long as there is lots of communication and some planning ahead, this could be doable!
