Today the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has outlined through a Ministerial Statement, changes to the planning system. This includes the introduction of Mandatory Housing Targets, reform of the NPPF within the month, re-assessment of the Green Belt to release ‘grey belt’ land, priority for energy projects including changes in the way wind power is assessed and funding to secure 300 new planning officers.   As a consequence, these statements now become material planning considerations. They can influence the way in which planning decisions are made locally and will inevitably affect the way Local Plan Reviews are carried out - it's going to be interesting to see how this pans out!

Yes, of course we should build clean energy on brownfields sites. The trick is getting those sites to be located next to transmission lines and substations with appropriate interconnection capacity and in markets with demand.

The projects, under the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program, aim to modernize the electric grid, enhance flexibility, efficiency, and reliability, and promote clean energy integration. They span various states, each with a commitment to justice and union partnerships. Key projects include a comprehensive smart grid update in Georgia, microgrid deployment and grid resilience in Louisiana, adaptive networked microgrids in Michigan, grid reliability enhancement in Pennsylvania, and clean energy integration in Oregon. Several inter-regional projects will expand transmission across multiple states. The GRIP funds complement other programs, such as the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grant Program, further fortifying the nation's energy infrastructure.
