💰 Seven Starling, a virtual provider of women’s behavioral health services, has announced the successful closing of its $10.9 million Series A funding round. The oversubscribed investment round was led by RH Capital, with participation from existing investors Pear VC, Expa, Magnify Ventures, Emerson Collective, and Inflect Health, as well as new investors including Zeal Capital Partners, Ulu Ventures, Fiore Ventures, the March of Dimes, Rogue Venture Partners, Graham & Walker, and Wisdom Ventures. 💬 "We are thrilled to have successfully raised this round of funding, which will allow us to expand our reach and help more women who need support during critical life transitions. This investment is a testament to the demand for a dedicated women’s mental health solution and our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality care. Erin Brodwin and Axios have the news today about the Series A raise for social care platform, Grayce, led by Maveron with participation from BBG Ventures, Correlation Ventures, GingerBread Capital, Alumni Ventures, Visible Ventures , Gaingels, and What If Ventures. There is a staffing shortage crisis across the U.S. in childcare, eldercare, and healthcare. More employed Americans are being thrust into new roles as caregivers while juggling work and family responsibilities. The healthcare system, also facing crisis-level staff shortages, is increasingly relying on independent caregivers. According to Harvard Business School's The HBS Project on Managing the Future of Work, 73 percent of employees currently report some level of caregiving responsibilities. Grayce’s social care platform supports family caregivers in navigating caregiving complexities. Each member receives dedicated support from a social worker who helps manage their care needs —from identifying resources to coordinating care and planning around other responsibilities such as travel. The platform is personalized for each member and offers connections to a peer community and access to a marketplace of resources, and productivity tools. Last month, we were thrilled to host a live session with Lilu, Inc investors, advisors, and supporters. We welcomed: Silvia Mah PhD, MBA, Managing Partner at Stella Foundation Impact Capital Kara Aquilano Forney, Founder of The Bump, author LaShanda Dandrich, IBCLC and co-owner of Lactation Learning Collective During the session, we learned why investing in #maternalcare is so important, especially right now, and how #equitycrowdfunding campaigns, like ours on Wefunder, empower more women and moms to invest in their futures by backing the companies and products they believe in most. 💰A need for more gender diversity in Venture Capital 💰 For context, there’s not a whole lot of gender diversity in #VentureCapital. According to Forbes, only about 12% of decision makers at VC firms are women, and 65% of firms still do not have a single female partner. For angel investing, the numbers don’t look great either. Dr. Mah shared that only 25% of angel investors are women and that 25% of angel round money goes to women-run businesses. There are several factors that contribute to a lack of #genderdiversity in Venture Capital, and how the effects of it trickle down to the companies who are seeking investment. For example, investors are more likely to invest in founders they can relate to in some way. As most investors are men, it’s more likely to find common ground among male founders. 📣Giving a voice to BIPOC/Women business owners 📣 In many ways, Wefunder and other equity crowdfunding campaigns are working to balance the scales. These platforms democratize the current investment landscape that has long-since been dominated by other individuals. Dr. Mah shared, “It allows anybody who wants to invest in great innovations and great founders, like Adriana and Sujay of Lilu, to do so.” Whereas traditional VC lacks diversity, equity crowdfunding platforms level the playing field. BIPOC/women business owners are able to find success here, and the same is true for the individuals investing in those companies. 🤳 Lilu’s first ever equity crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder 🤳 This is why we decided to launch our own Wefunder campaign. It was important to us that our community – our family, friends, and customers – could share in our success. Loewen Cavill was a curious kid, set on figuring out how everything worked—from ants to transistors—and making friends with everyone she met. That fuel took her from MIT’s mechanical engineering program into startups. But only when life intervened did it all click. Menopausal symptoms stripped Loewen’s beloved aunt of her life energy. She did the math: A massive portion of the population— with the most experience and wisdom to share—was getting sidelined by menopause. Loewen knew how important this problem was, not just for older women suffering from it, but for the long-term health of capitalism.
