I'm pleased to share that I've completed this elective course within MIT's #COO Program. This #AI course took me outside of my comfort zone. The technical stuff was hard, but I have a finer appreciation for the product design and planning process and the nuances of training data for the model. This great visual shows how long popular apps took to reach 100 million users versus Threads' 5 days. This is the power of an engaged user base. Without Instagram's audience base, this would have taken much longer. The takeaway.....platforms and organizations with large, engaged audiences will have an easier time launching or bundling products. News publishers have learned their lesson from the days when content was given away for free, or deals were made without careful consideration for future technology enhancements. Rather than going alone, they are taking a page from the music industry playbook that there is power in the collective. Suppose an organization needs content to provide a service, teach a machine, or do anything that adds value and benefits them commercially. The #streaming services will need to diversify from subscriptions to include advertising and even #licensing, otherwise they will continue to lose money. Disney+ added 9 mm subs, but still lost $1.5 billion and price increases won't be the savior. Is there really enough room for all the #streamers to survive profitably and grow? While #newspaper subscription rates in #Japan have dropped from almost 90% to below 60% in 2022, over 65% of readers still trust information from newspapers and that number has only slightly dipped. However, less than 50% trust online news, which is replacing newspapers as the source of information. With each generation comes the old question, "what are they willing to pay for when it comes to #media and why?" Well, no surprise with #GenZ, it's games, SVOD, social media (ecommerce), but maybe a surprise....#news?!?! Millennials now account for the majority of decision makers in corporate America. They want peer-to-peer learnings, have done their research pre-meeting and prefer to communicate via text or DM.
